Big year for your neighborhood book goblin. My favorite of the year was “Culpability” by Bruce Holsinger. A family gets into a car accident in their smart vehicle, killing two people in the other car. The aftermath tears the family apart as it explores guilt, responsibllity, and the moral complexities surrounding our deepening relationship with AI. To pair, I asked AI to create a cocktail based on the book. What it came up with was not only deeply uncreative from a drinks perspective, it was also in no way tied to the story, setting, or characters. Instead, I present to you the “Morality Police” which is a dryer version a “Police Gazette.” Cheers to genuine human creativity both behind the bar and on the page. 🍸: 1 dash Angostura 1 dash orange bitters 2 dashes saline 1 barspoon Luxardo Maraschino 0.25 oz dry curaçao 0.25 oz blanc vermouth 0.25 oz dry vermouth 2 oz rye whiskey Method: measure all ingredients into a mixing glass and stir until chilled.
