Nostalgia will be the death of me and we should not talk about my steering here BUT I just thought my favorite joke deserved a place on the grid ⚓️❤️ #upstreamforever
Some fun news to share: I recently had the honor of contributing a piece to the Puppeteers of America Journal, for their 75th anniversary issue 💕 A lot of love was poured into this piece and I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to share my thoughts with my puppet colleagues. I hope you enjoy!
📍Asheville, North Carolina 💜
What a special, wonderful, sweaty, joy-filled week it’s been back in the field with @allhandsandhearts . This organization means the world to me - the long-term recovery work they’re doing to help families get home is so important.
The need in Asheville and the surrounding communities is still so massive, even 18 months after Hurricane Helene made landfall. When the headlines disappear and the media buzz stops, All Hands and Hearts is still there — the first to stay, and the last to leave.
Forever grateful that a Google search about volunteer opportunities in Louisiana in 2016 has led to practically a decade of long-lasting friendships (too many to list off here), new skills (carpentry, construction, and mastering the rice-water ratio when you’re cooking dinner for 60 people a night), countless change-of-address forms (sorry USPS), base raccoons, and perspectives that have helped me see the world in brighter ways.
Every time I’m here, I’m reminded that you never have to tackle big things alone, that air mattresses can actually be pretty comfy, and that the best things we can ever do are the things we build together. 💜
happy birthday buddy 🐸🪕🌈
thankful for the time I’ve gotten to spend in your fuzzy, feathery, joyful, weird, wonderful world.
imagination is unlimited, puppetjoy matters, & the very best things we could ever make are the things we make alongside our friends. 🤗
Thank you to everyone who joined us for last night’s sold out PUPPETRY NIGHT at Carnival! 🎪🦭🎭
It was such a special evening celebrating the puppeteers in the show, who wonderfully bring Ed Christie’s puppets to life. We were also joined by Leni Anders, who performed in the original 1961 Broadway cast. ❤️
We love bringing people together, celebrating the magic of theatrical puppetry, and the cast and crew who make it possible. Thank you for having us! ✨

“it’s the kind of dream that gets better the more people you share it with. and i found a whole group of friends who have the same dream, and that makes us sort of like a family.” -kermit the frog 🐸🪕🌈
Treebeard is my favorite character in the Lord of the Rings trilogy*. The Last March of the Ents brings me to tears every single time I watch it (“These were our friends” 😭), and I just love that he was inspired by CS Lewis, JRR Tolkien’s bestie IRL.
Last month, it was so incredibly special to meet and spend time with Daniel Falconer, who designed and sculpted Treebeard for the films. Treebeard is such a cool blend of animatronic puppetry, CGI, and practical effects. I love that puppetry is a part of telling so many of my favorite stories in nuanced and creative ways. It really does all come back to puppets for me. ❤️
This year I’m prioritizing meeting artists whose work inspires me, seeing as much new/developmental work as possible, and exposing myself to different forms of artistry as I can. There’s so much to learn and be inspired by, and I’m thankful that storytelling is the thread that connects us all!
*It’s actually a really close tie between Frodo and Treebeard, but of course, Frodo is gonna be my favorite! He’s the ring bearer!
You gotta excuse my face on this one but living in NYC is crazy because it’s a random Wednesday evening, and I just got to meet my favorite Imagineer, Joe Rohde, at the Explorers Club. Getting to tell him how much his work impacted me was so special - he was one of the first people whose work showed me that you can both be interested in scientific research/exploration AND the arts/themed experiences.
And even further, that this intersection HAS to exist if we want to get anywhere in the advancement of our craft - we are better when we can find the intersection of our respective academic/artistic/technical processes and use it as fuel to inspire curiosity, conservation, community, and change.
Anyway, I feel like I’ve fulfilled my life cycle as a Skipper ❤️ Thank you @joerohde !!
