Gabrielle Timofeeva López is a mezzo-soprano from San Juan, Puerto Rico, based in Chicago. Her work as a soloist ranges from symphonic and chamber repertoire such as Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Berlioz’s Roméo et Juliette, Mozart’s Great Mass in C Minor, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s Am Abend aber desselbigen Sabbats and Mass in B Minor, to modern, vanguardist and new contemporary oeuvre, including Salmo by Mario Lavista for soprano and crotales, as well as the world premieres of Boris Alvarado’s From for female voice and Tibetan singing bowls and Guarionex Morales Matos’s Stabat Mater. In opera, she has sung the title roles in Lully’s Armide and Handel’s Rinaldo, Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel, Annina in La Traviata and Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly. Interested in music as a process of creation and collaboration without distinction of format or genre, she is the frontwoman of indie rock band Los Olmos, which is now in the process of recording its first full-length album. She is an alum of the Puerto Rico Music Conservatory, where she received a B.M. in Vocal Performance, and also of the Miami Music Festival, Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute and American Bach Soloists Academy. She is a winner of the Dr. José J. Rabelo Bel Canto Award and of an Honorable Mention in Voice - Mezzosoprano by the National YoungArts Foundation.
Gabrielle will be featured in our group recital “Barbara Strozzi and her World,” June 18th at St. John’s Episcopal Church of Decatur. Admission is free and open to the public, so don’t miss it!
