In this part of my blog, I want to share some notable bookshops and record stores from around the globe, a series I call "A Voyage Through Shelves & Sounds." Imagine this: the place boasts an extensive collection of books and records, some of which captivate you with their stunning architecture or interior design before you select a few to add to your own library. In the end, we build a connection to these places in a meaningful way. This time, the spotlight is Tsutaya Books Bukit Jalil in Malaysia, the first Tsutaya store in SE. Although it's located inside a mall, this bookstore feels like an isolated paradise unto itself. Kudos to interior designer Yoshiaki Miyashita for his masterful blend of minimalism and grandeur. Have you been here? 📍Tsutaya Books Bukit Jalil WP KL, Lot 2.89.00, Level 2 Orange Zone, Pavilion Bukit Jalil, Persiaran Jalil Utama, Bandar Bukit Jalil, 57000 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia ____ #Books #Bookstore @bukitjalil.tsutayabooks #Traveling #Library #Malaysia

Imagine this: a place with an extensive collection of books and records, captivating you with its stunning architecture or interior design, before you select a few treasures to add to your own library. In the end, we build a connection to these places in a meaningful way. This time, it's Open House in Bangkok—a bookstore located on the 6th floor of Central Embassy. The mall itself has an interesting story; it sits where the British embassy’s gardens once were. Open House was designed by Tokyo’s Klein Dytham Architecture, led by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham, who’ve turned it into a stunning, laid-back space. Inside, there are plenty of cafes and restaurants, making it a great spot to unwind with a good book. Been there? You should 📍Open House Central Embassy 1031 Phloen Chit Rd, Lumphini, Pathum Wan, Bangkok 10330, Thailand Note: Some of the places in this series may no longer exist or may have moved to other locations, but their impact lives on in memory ____ #Books #Bookstore @openhouse.ce #Traveling #Library #Thailand

Been listening to American Football's LP4 back and forth. I'm lost for words. Just lying down on the floor, waiting for when I'll ever move on from this. ALBUM OF THE YEAR 🥲. So fucking beautiful. ____ #AmericanFootball #Vinyl #Library

Just found some old photos from my old Drive. This was when we went to The National show at Barclays Center, the brand-new home of the Nets after they moved from Jersey. We spent the day biking around Central Park before I left and met the others in BK. Now I miss this album, only to realize we don’t even have it in the library anymore. Or do we?? ____ #TheNational

A train carrying news of the future: The lives of humans in the metropolitan city of Jakarta has slid far away, vanishing, swallowed by hypocrisy. What a line by Eros Djarot. This is an autographed tape of 'Kembalikan Masa Depanku' (1983, Musica Studio's). A random thought of oil price bubble and the impact of our economy suddenly kicks in when the tape is playing at the library. Actually.. it's not random after all 😅 ____ #Cassette #CassetteTapes #Library

This film released during the peak of MK hype among the kids back in the mid 90s. We were so ready and so satisfied with the outcome. Of course when we revisit it three decades later, it looks goofy. But that doesn't mean it's not entertaining at all. Both Liu Kang and Shang Tsung seem to be more lethal. On the other hand, Sonya Blade and Sub-Zero in MK '21 look more alive. And for the music department, MK '95 has no contest. Just see the line up: George Clinton, KMFDM, Orbital, Napalm Death, Fear Factory... and the iconic MK theme by The Immortals. Today marks the release date for MK II (or we'll refer as MK '26). Flawlesss Victoryy ____ #MortalKombat #Cassette #CassetteTapes #Library

Though Indonesia has produced countless great jazz music through films since the Usmar Ismail era (or even earlier), it is too bad the physical releases were not that well available. Also, we wish this lovely album were pressed on vinyl (with redesigned artwork, obviously). It is about time. Please kindly recommend other films with jazzy soundtracks 🥂 Song: Indra Lesmana - Dua Sekawan ____ #Jazz #IndraLesmana #CD #CDcollection #Library

Really had a blast at Record Store Day Indonesia Market last weekend. We think the best part about this event is getting to see all these stores we usually only deal with online or that are spread out all over the place, all hanging out in one spot at the same time. It's also the perfect time to track down some new releases from brand-new artists or big names we already know. The market keeps getting bigger and better, and it has become the perfect excuse to catch up and hang out with friends who are also music heads. Lookin back to our first RSD in 2011 in Princeton, we never thought we’d feel that way again once we got back to Indonesia. Long live record stores 🥂 #RecordStoreDay #RSD2026 #RecordStoreDay2026

Some won't forget how Hong Kong cinema dominated local movie theaters and TV back in the '90s. Or maybe it was only in some areas? That was when Andy Lau became a poster boy everywhere we went, making boys try to copy his hairstyle and outfit. A Moment of Romance (倩若有情, 1990), four tracks on a white shell cassette, released under Cinepoly Records Co. Ltd. Hong Kong. One of the gems from 1990 🫰 ____ #Cassette #CassetteTapes #CassetteCulture #Tape #HongKong

So we hit up a God Bless show in Jakarta last month, and they played without Donny Fattah, the original bassist. Both the band and the crowd were pulling for him to get better. Today, the news breaks that he passed away, a final victory against all that illness. So, here we are, spinning the signed tape of God Bless' first album. Rock music definitely owes him one for his service. That is for sure. This is our favorite GB song, 'Rock Di Udara' (written by Donny Fattah & Achmad Albar) 🀘 Rest in love, Donny Fattah 1949 - 2026 Your legacy rocks on What's your favorite God Bless album? ____ #GodBless #CassetteTapes #CassetteTape #Library #Cassette

A late-night tape session tonight features a Lokananta release, Gending Dolanan: Kupu Kuwi. It is a gamelan composition supporting a children's choir; in this album in particular, it advises children to appreciate nature more, as reflected by the title "Kupu Kuwi" (meaning "That Butterfly"). It sounds like a simple idea but is easily forgotten in this modern, fast-paced era. If anyone knows more about this album, do let us know. ____ #Lokananta #Cassette #CassetteTapes #Gamelan #library
