We felt bad about accusing fish of lying, so here's some fish that are being fully honest with us.

👀 When you notice a little thing like the MSC label on your seafood, you start to see it everywhere! It may be a small label, but it means fisheries are making BIG sustainability improvements. See the label. Know you're good. #SustainableFishing #SustainableSeafood #MSC #SustainableLiving #OceanHealth

If I had a dollar for every time I've gotten an email saying "there was a typo on my can, it says 'fad' free instead of 'fat' free." I would have SEVERAL dollars. This is weird because a) we don't make cans of anything - MSC is a non-profit that sets a sustainable fisheries standard - and b) fish are kind of known for having healthy fats. So when a can says FAD-free, it's talking about Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs), not fat. People may look for FAD-free seafood because historically, FADs have had a reputation of increase bycatch and contributing to ghost gear when poorly managed. But we couldn't leave them out of our Fishing Gear 101 series because they play a major role in tuna fishing. They're also an excellent reminder that it's not the fishing gear that makes a fishery sustainable, but the way that fishing gear is used. MSC certified fisheries that use FADs are reducing impacts by using non-entangling and biodegradable designs, tracking and retrieving lost devices, and improving monitoring at sea. With better technology, data, and safeguards in place, FADs can improve fishing efficiency and lower costs, while continuing to evolve toward more sustainable tuna fishing.

Tuna aren’t just fast apex predators; they play a vital role in ocean ecosystems by regulating fish populations and keeping marine food chains stable. Their population health is even used as a marker of overall ocean health! And here's a bonus fact: some tuna can warm their eyes and brain separately from the rest of their body, boosting vision and reaction speed in cold, deep water👀🧠 #WorldTunaDay

Okay maybe they're not lying, but they're definitely misrepresenting some of their strengths...

Affordability is shaping food choices in North America right now. People are adapting. They’re looking for value. They’re making trade-offs, but they’re also finding ways to stay aligned with their sustainability values. ♉ Meet the Taurus of the ocean: halibut 🌿🐟 Calm, grounded, and perfectly content staying low-key, halibut don’t rush the moment. They rest along the ocean floor, steady and unbothered, waiting patiently for the right time. Strong, resilient, and a little stubborn…very Taurus. Does that make halibut fishers Taurus too?! Quiet confidence, long-term thinking…feels right. MSC certified halibut fisheries are built on that same steady energy. They’re managed with science-based rules to keep stocks healthy, protect the wider ecosystem, and ensure this fishery can thrive for the long term. That means careful monitoring, collaboration between industry, scientists, and government. Because Taurus energy isn’t about quick wins, it’s about building something that lasts. #Taurus #TaurusSeason #OceanHealth #SustainableFishing #MSC #Halibut
