I don't think I've properly shared this project I did for Raid studio's 3rd anthology yet. Here's a snippet of a page I was pretty pumped about finishing!
I wanted to create a story about duty and family since it's ingrained deep in my South East Asian roots, and also explore some visual aesthetics inspired by my trip to Bali and Thailand.
There aren't too many stories that are based off that part of the world so I hope I'm doing my part by adding some of my culture into the mainstream creative world here.
Also who else is looking forward to Disney's new movie "Raya and the Last Dragon"?? 🙋🏽♀️

Cat’s out of the bag on who’s going solo for the next book.
Nathan has generously passed the torch, and I’ll be continuing the series on my own! (AAAAH! 🤯)
Any good news still comes as a shock to me as I don’t think I was ever chasing outcomes, mostly just picking processes that felt the most interesting and challenging to see where they led.. So seeing this in print, alongside two weeks at the top of CBC Books’ children’s list, feels totally surreal.
I was the kid who thought it was more interesting to try a bit of everything than get good at one thing. Then the teen who dropped out of a comic arts program in college, convinced drawing wasn’t my strength, and pivoted into concept art — hoping to find a place in games and animation through color and painting.
There were points where it almost didn’t happen at all — including nearly having to move back to Thailand because of visa issues. I’m incredibly grateful to @clivealivo for stepping in when he did.
I’ve talked a lot about this series over the past couple of years, but my mom — who pushed me to leave home and take that first step — shaped so much of how I approach all of this.
She believed in it long before I did — and I know she’d be proud that I get to keep building on that. 🤍
It's been such a fun week since The Trouble With Leo was released. As much as we love the fact our books can be found in 13 languages all over the world, there's something very special about topping a bestsellers list here at home! 😊 Our deepest thanks go out to all the Canadian booksellers, librarians, parents and kids who made the launch such a big success! ❤️🍁
