But honestly⌠the views over Howe Sound while hanging off a cliff are worth the shaky legs đ đ§đźââď¸
I tried the Via Ferrata with @msa_adventures at the @seatoskygondola and it was SUCH a fun way to push my comfort zone.
Make sure to end the experience with a drink and bite at the Sky Pilot Restaurant overlooking Howe Sound and the mountains đťâ°ď¸ Such a beautiful spot to sit back and soak in the views for a while!

And thatâs a wrap! đżâď¸
This weekend marks our final AST 1 courses of the season!
A huge shoutout to our incredible guides who showed up in all conditions (snow, rain, and everything in between) and to all of our adventurous students who committed to learning the skills needed to travel safely in the backcountry.
Weâve had an incredible winter, thanks to everyone who joined us this season, and weâll see you out there. đď¸
An everlasting love for the backcountry.
So grateful for days like this on the mountain where I can show up well equipped with gear, skills, and knowledge AND still learn from guides who have spent decades exploring the backcountry.
Huge shout out to Atsu, one of MSAAâs guides for having been a huge inspiration to get me outside and keep educating myself.
Always explore safely when going out into the backcountry during all seasons! Guided trips are great but that doesnât mean you show up unprepared â°ď¸

We love seeing @ride_yvr and @rowangski getting out there and taking on one of BCâs most iconic backcountry routes, the Spearhead Traverse!
Spanning 30+ km and crossing 13 glaciers, itâs a journey through some of the most raw, awe-inspiring terrain in the Coast Mountains. Big views, big effort, and the kind of experience that stays with you long after youâre done.
So the question is⌠Would you slow it down and experience it as a multi day hike or dig deep and go for the single-day push?
Backcountry report | 4/4/26
Jonathan checking in from the Whistler Blackcomb backcountry on April 4th.
Location:
Whistler Blackcomb backcountry
~2000 m
Current Conditions:
Spring conditions are here, with warm temps across all elevations, broken skies, and light wind. The snowpack is in a diurnal cycle.
North aspects in the alpine are still holding decent snow, but other aspects are warming quickly. Even early, east aspects showed pinwheeling around 2000 m, and south-facing terrain is actively shedding.
Hazards:
Wet loose avalanches are the main concern. Avoid southerly and easterly slopes through midday and afternoon.
Watch for overhead hazard, cornices sagging and potential rockfall as terrain warms.
Travel Advice:
Start early and move through solar aspects before they heat up. Ski crampons, skin wax, and sunscreen are recommended.
Overall:
Good spring skiing is out there if you manage timing and aspect well.
Happy Easter and enjoy those spring turns! đŁ

Backcountry report | 3/31/26
Adrian checking in from the Spearhead and Fitzsimmons ranges on the last day of March.
Location:
Spearhead Traverse / Fitzsimmons Range
High alpine terrain
Current Conditions:
Weâve been getting out across a wide range of terrain, including the Spearhead Traverse today, with travel through the Flute / Nobo area. Skiing remains quite good in sheltered, shaded terrain, especially where youâre out of the wind and sun. There are still plenty of soft turns to be found if youâre willing to seek them out.
A stable weather pattern over the past few days has allowed for confident travel in more complex alpine terrain, including glaciers and bigger objectives.
Looking ahead, that high pressure is set to break. A weak low pressure system is expected midweek (WednesdayâThursday), bringing roughly 15â20 cm over 48â72 hours. Expect changing conditions with that incoming snow.
Overall, the snowpack remains strong and well established at the base, setting up nicely for ski mountaineering season.
Weâre continuing to exercise caution around cornices.
Great conditions out there, get after it. âď¸
