CLUB YEARN Presents - MS.SMITH Album Release Thur 5/28 9pm-1am Thee Stork Club, Oakland MS.SMITH (formerly Mnemonics) has lived many lives: musician, performance artist, dancer, community organizer, mother, maiden, bitch, healer, educator, DJ, and friend. She’s been a part of Club Yearn from its conception, and was the first guest to pour her heart out on our decks. Join us in celebrating the release of MS.SMITH, her debut self-titled album exploring concepts of grit, grief, and the audacity to return to one’s self when it’s dangerous to be. To yearn is to spiral, in that it brings us back to ourselves again and again. It demands we confront who we have been before we move forward. It requires us to choose between the comfort of patterns and the hard work of forging a new path. And ultimately, yearning gives us hope, that things can and will change. MS.SMITH the album marches us through the spiral, turning our heads to look at the world we have created and live in and demands we move forward. Heavy dancefloor beats, melodic ambient tales, and percussive vocal elements weave a path through the hard work it takes to wrench oneself from stagnation and step into the light. It has been a gift to witness this project, both as the creation of a new and powerful piece of art, and a catalyst of integration, bringing together a lifetime of experiences to step full-bodied into a next phase of life. We are so excited to celebrate this step with her and all of you!
