Here's to me being 30 but more importantly, my beautiful mum raising me on her own for most of my life and also just having a great attitude to life from day one. Through the many thick but also many thin. I'm everything that she brought out in me. Here's to a very happy 30 years together.
2 years to the day that we first met at the Mackie Mayor, when I arranged probably the best date ever. It's been a ride. We started in Manchester, now we're in Australia with so many countries in between. Just look at her.
There many things to thank my dad for but being the influence for me to get in to scuba diving and loving the ocean has made me a major part of who I am.
Here's a photo from 7 years ago, taken whilst working as a diver in Greece, before I became an instructor and dive center manager. We're all about 20m underwater in a cavern that starts off as a tiny insignificant shore based crack and develops into the opening that you can see here and exiting behind in to the open ocean, in the middle of a big underwater cliff. It's a tunnel so the only way out is to come back the way you came or keep swimming until you exit in to the open ocean.

Spending a good 30 minutes or so with this Hawksbill sea turtle is definitely one of the highlights of my trip. This turtle was so completely relaxed by our presence that it let me get some amazingly close footage. We saw three turtles this day, each sighting getting better and better.
Hawksbill turtles are classed as critically endangered, mainly due to human activity. Many cultures use their shells for decoration, which is where tortoiseshell comes from, they are also hunted for their meat. Mistaking them for jellyfish, Hawksbills will also eat plastic bags which can kill them. Loss of nesting and reliable feeding sites are also a huge problem.
All that being said, awareness for the oceans seems to be increasing but the demand and strain on them is also increasing. .
