On Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24, 2026 from 2-7PM, join LAND for “Field Set” in Altadena. Experience a collaboration between artists Kelly Akashi (@citizenbong ) and Phil Peters (@mrphil ) at the site of Akashi’s former home and studio in Altadena. Using subterranean microphones, Peters has been continuously recording Akashi’s property since May 2025, in the wake of the devastating Eaton Fire. Presented here for the first time, these field recordings have been arranged into a three-hour durational soundscape, focusing on the debris removal and excavation period. Following the soundscape, each evening at 5:45PM, there will be a live music performance by artists with ties to Altadena: Celia Hollander (@ceellliiiia ) on Saturday, May 23 Paul McCarthy (@paulmccarthyyy ), Alex Stevens (@a.s.stagram ), and John Wiese (@sad_psychics ) on Sunday, May 24. Throughout the day, visitors can also experience new sculptural interventions by Akashi using materials sourced from her property, as well as her chimney sculpture, “Witness (Altadena),” and a community garden. Tap the link in our bio to RSVP. Location and parking info shared with RSVP. Please note that “Field Set” is on private property in Altadena and not accessible outside of the project dates. ANNOUNCEMENT Los Angeles Nomadic Division (LAND) presents “Field Set,” a new sound installation and series of sculptural interventions using recordings and materials from artist Kelly Akashi’s (@citizenbong ) former home and studio in Altadena, California. Join us in Altadena on Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24, 2026 from 2-7PM. “Field Set” features a collaboration between Akashi and Phil Peters (@mrphil ). Using subterranean microphones, Peters has been continuously recording Akashi’s property since May 2025, capturing the sounds of demolition and nearby rebuilding. Presented for the first time, these field recordings focus on the debris removal and excavation period and are arranged into a three-hour durational soundscape. Played through large-scale subwoofers constructed by Peters, the work unfolds across the ground and through low-frequency sound, using the site as a physical surface and a field of resonance. Following the soundscape, each day will conclude with a live musical performance by an artist with ties to the neighborhood. Participating performers will be announced shortly.  In addition to the sound installation, visitors are encouraged to wander the site to experience new sculptures by Akashi using materials sourced from her property following the Eaton Fire, as well as her chimney sculpture, “Witness (Altadena),” and community garden.  “Field Set” is free to attend via the link in our bio. We hope to see you there. Location and parking instructions will be provided upon RSVP. Please note that “Field Set” is on private property in Altadena and not accessible outside of the project dates. “Field Set” is commissioned by Los Angeles Nomadic Division (LAND) and organized by Christopher Mangum-James (@notmagnum ), LAND deputy director. This project is made possible with lead support provided by Angeles Art Fund and generous support provided by Ben Weyerhaeuser.

Join us this Saturday (2/1) for the opening reception of @mrphil “The Storm”. Our first exhibit of 2025 “The Storm” is a large-scale sound installation that transforms Canary Test into a resonant instrument, immersing visitors in the deep, infrasonic frequencies of Hurricane Hilary, a once-in-a-century storm that struck Southern California in 2023. Through Peters’ innovative use of sound and space, The Storm explores how art can serve as a conduit for new ways of understanding the interconnectedness of human and environmental systems. Edited to play in varying and unpredictable cycles, Phil Peters’ recording becomes a contemplation on our fundamental experience of climate change, sublimating into a metaphor for transformation, change, and loss. This work invites us to feel, listen, and reflect on the imperceptible yet powerful forces shaping our world, sparking a reconsideration of our relationship with nature and the systems we inhabit.
