A moment history has never witnessed: the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in Barbados during GUBA Awards Week a powerful symbol of reconnection across the Atlantic.
This visit represents more than cultural diplomacy.
It marks a full-circle moment in Africa–Caribbean relations, reaffirming shared heritage, strengthening historical ties, and advancing a new era of collaboration in trade, culture, and global African empowerment.
As we continue to reclaim our Atlantic destiny, this gathering stands as a reminder that when Africa and the Caribbean unite, legacy becomes impact and history becomes the future we build together.
I’m truly honored to have been part of this moment. Filmed and edited by me.

Ever since I first touched land in Ghana, everywhere I looked I could witness strenght. Strenght in tender moments of community and trust, strenght through faith and hope, strenght built through sport. I experienced different kinds of sport and physical activities as a thick layer holding together everyday life. From hopes of future paths, female empowernment and establishing self-trust - sports in Ghana goes far beyond competition. That‘s where I started documenting, feeling and talking to people and over time, (2023-2026) developing a photographic story around it. „What holds us“ is a quiet, observational photographic documentation of how sports serves as a transzendent social construct making up for governmental weaknesses. It‘s not about competition nor victories, it‘s about the moments before the match, the preperation, about the people who are watching, the poeple who are looking up - to each other. It‘s about coming together whilst fighting alone. It‘s abou what holds us.
There’s something powerful about working with people who truly understand the vision.
Not just showing up to do a job, but bringing ideas, asking questions, adjusting on the go and making the work better together. Some of the best moments on set aren’t planned, they happen because everyone is locked in and thinking as one.
That’s what turns a good shoot into something meaningful.

The funny thing about going to Ghana earlier this year is that it made me realize something. So much of what I always thought was just my individual “personality” or “character” was actually pieces of my culture and childhood showing up in me.
There were so many moments where I caught myself thinking, “Ahh… so that’s why I do this.” Meeting people—especially family—felt like meeting different versions of myself in other bodies. It was honestly such a cool experience to see things from that perspective.
It made me understand that culture is almost like DNA. It’s in the blood, in the body, in the bones. It’s the fabric that quietly shapes who you are.
So every year on Ghana Independence Day, I’m proud to say that my essence was born out of whatever historical forces shaped the nation into what it is today—the good, the bad, the beautiful, the complicated. All of it at once.
That’s us.
Some things are yeah…
