💍The Wife Deserved It by Darby Kane Narrators: Eva Kaminsky and Jonathan McClain Thank you @harpercollins (Harper Audio) for my free audiobook. ____ This is such a fun and juicy little thriller! Reid has decided he’s had enough of his wife Anna, so naturally he intends to be rid of her, permanently. He has a plan, but little does he know...he’s not the only one. Told in both dual POVs and timelines this is a quick read you won’t want to stop. I listened to the audiobook in practically one sitting because it’s just that addictive. Reid is an AWFUL person that I loved to hate! Jonathan McClain narrated Reid and he used the PERFECT voice. He was annoyingly smarmy and oozed narcissism and entitlement with just the right inflections and cadence. Did I want to jump in the book and slap him across his complaining whining face? M a y b e . . . Eva Kaminsky was just as fabulous with her narration emoting just the right amount of sly no nonsense exasperation and guile. I could almost see smug satisfaction on her character’s face! Honestly I was in a slump, which RARELY happens and this knocked me right out of it! THE WIFE DESERVED IT is a twisty little battle of wills that will hold you it’s grip and leave you with a feeling of satisfaction. It’s fast-paced, twisty, difficult to put down, & can be read in a single sitting at only 128 pages! The story follows Reid Cavanagh, who has had enough of his marriage & is convinced the only way out is making sure his wife is gone. With careful planning & a solid alibi, he sets out to commit the perfect crime. But when a woman named Paige crosses his path, things don’t go as he expects. Reid Cavanagh is a ruthless, methodical protagonist (or antagonist, depending on how you view him) & his fury & sense of entitlement make him unlikable! Paige is just as fearless and calculating, but readers will need to hold off judgment until her backstory is revealed. Reid’s wife, Anna, is more of a secondary character but shows some real grit during the climactic scenes, and readers will root for her! The pacing is spot-on for a novella—the build-up is fast with a steady rise in tension. The mid-section, where Reid’s perfect plan begins to show cracks and a psychological chess game begins, is where the story really gets interesting! The ending features a satisfying twist true to Kane’s style—but if you’re paying attention to all the clues, it’s a bit predictable. This will hit the mark for anyone who loves fast-paced, twisty thrillers about deceit, obsession, & revenge! Narration (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️): The audiobook is narrated by Eva Kaminsky & Jonathan McClain.
