Over the past few weeks I’ve had the privilege of photographing Kestrel Nest EcoHut, located at Highfield Farm & Woodland near Mt Adrah in the NSW Riverina.
Kestrel Nest was recently recognised as Australia’s first International DarkSky Approved Lodge, one of only nine certified dark-sky lodgings worldwide and the only one in the Southern Hemisphere.
The certification is awarded by DarkSky International, and acknowledges not only the quality of the night sky (with minimal light pollution and excellent visibility) but also the lodge’s commitment to responsible outdoor lighting, sustainability, and education.
The images I’ve captured aim to reflect just how special this place is — not just as an accommodation but as a sanctuary for stargazing, ecological conservation, and cultural storytelling.
