Feeling incredibly privileged to have been in Pōneke this week—reconnecting with old friends, making new ones, and sharing space in our creative capital.
But this visit carries a deep undercurrent of loss.
Like many, I’m heartbroken by the passing of Chris Faiumu—Mu to many, DJ Fitchy to most, and to those who knew him well: a brother, a husband, a father, a mentor, a hero, a loyal friend.
To have been present for his final voyage is something I hold with immense gratitude.
Mu, you’ve moved on to the next plane, but your presence here is far from gone.
It lingers in the beats, the basslines, the quiet corners of this city—
and in every person you lifted with your generosity, humour, and sound.
Your contribution was more than music—it was memory, whakapapa, celebration, soul.
You built bridges with rhythm and brought people together through our shared love of life, expressed through phat beats and endless grooves.
A huge shout out to all who travelled from the corners of the globe to be here this past week—your presence speaks to the gravity of his spirit and the depth of his legacy.
Aroha nui to the extended Freddy’s whānau.
Rest easy, Mu.
Your spirit echoes on.
