Monty Moomin 🐾
In October 2009 I drove back from Swansea with a small brown puppy in a borrowed cat crate, in my sister’s borrowed car. I was at a pretty low point in life — everything felt like a struggle. A few weeks earlier I realised I had gone an entire day without speaking to another person.
I needed company.
When I got him home to my empty flat I put him on the chair in the front room and said, “It’s just you and me buddy.” I made him a promise that night that I would always be there for him and that I would do my best to be the best dog dad I could be.
Monty became my ride or die.
For those who knew him (and have probably had him dumped on you at short notice while I went off on tour), you’ll know he was a unique boy with a beautiful soul.
He dipped his paws in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, lived in LA and San Diego, and technically had Mark Wahlberg as a neighbour. He pooped in every room of the old Academy and stole far too many hearts.
In 2017 he flew back home to the UK where new adventures followed — meeting “The Lady”, welcoming a pink noisy brother, Alfie (AJ), and moving to the countryside.
A few days ago Monty stopped eating and began struggling to move around. The vets confirmed his kidneys were in the final stages of failure, and there was nothing we could do except think about his quality of life.
Yesterday was Monty’s day. We took him to Weston beach, said goodbye to family and friends, and that night he managed to scoff a Waitrose fish finger and some pizza while snuggling on the sofa.
This morning Monty passed peacefully in my arms, looking into my eyes.
I’m glad I got to be his dog dad.
He’s been the bestest boy.
Not been on BA transatlantic for a while.. Popping over to the USA to see one of our clients off on their USA Tour, then straight back to sunny Cornwall to look after another client. It’s all go I can tell you!
Happy to have concluded my short time covering monitors for @thedeclanmckenna on the @imaginedragons . Had a blast, great crew, wonderful band, and some great venues! Now back to the office to prepare for the next bunch of shows leaving @productionandtouringltd HQ. @allenandheath S5000 taking care of the audio loveliness, and @harrisonaudio LiveTraxV2 performing wonderfully for VSC and archive. Wonderful update!

AJ and I have come up with the idea of starting a very niche wing of law enforcement. “The churro Police” the basics of it from what I understand are to drive around and bust people for not being well behaved enough to eat churros… so kinda like the sweeney but with much more sugar and cinnamon. But I will have to insist on thr Mk1 escort and tire squealing entrances… I’ll keep you posted as to how our pitch goes with the governor…
Lovely little intimate show at the Co-op. Managed to get out to listen to @drewmthornton mix @teddyswims (the only fully live band) on his @allenandheath lovely job. We are up in a bit.
