On March 15 2019, I was up with
@gallermic until 6AM from the night before unloading inventory last minute into a space we, like many others over the last three years, had made a conscious decision about investing in - yes financially in the ways that we all could, but more specifically, emotionally. So few of us get to emotionally invest in a space here in the city anymore, our world of renters, moving when the rent gets to high to rent from someone else, or having to simply leave nyc in order to have any kind of equity with one’s monthly fiscal contribution - the constant discourse around money leaving no quarter for a conversation about the emotional commitments we make to the worlds we create and choose to inhabit. Three years later, Mil Mundos is a project with parallel entities: Mil Mundos Books, a bilingual bookstore that curates to celebrate Black, Latinx, and Indigenous heritage, and Mil Mundos en Común, a 501c3 org dedicated to providing essential goods, digital access, and inclusive literature to Bushwick and beyond, all thanks to the mil Mundos crew, friends and comrades that I fall in love with over and over as we watch our rowdy toddler of a space grow. Tomorrow, March 26, we are having a lil party 12-6, come through and meet the family, there will be food and singing, kids activities, chisme y más. Mil Mundos, cambiaste mi vida pa siempre, feliz tercer cumpleaños~
