Today, on International Day of Families (#IDoF26), MPV is joining fellow members of the Global Campaign for Equality in Family Law (GCEFL) for Week of Action for equality in family law. Family is considered the foundational unit of society. Yet around the world, discriminatory family laws continue to deny women and girls their fundamental rights, from the right to choose their own partners, to equal rights in divorce, custody, inheritance and property. Without equality in the family, we cannot have equality in society. The GCEFL brings together a coalition of 8 leading women’s rights, human rights and faith-based organisations, all united in their commitment to the pursuit of legal equality in the family as a prerequisite for a world where woman and girl can reach their full potential. This movement is gaining momentum. Family law reform is increasingly recognised at the UN and in regional and international decision-making spaces as foundational to achieving gender equality. SDG Indicator 5.1.1 has identified family law as one of four legal frameworks that must be reformed to accelerate progress for women and girls. This week we will explore the global picture, and the evidence which shows the power of reform. Follow along at the 🔗 in our bio! #FreeOurFamilyLaws #InternationalDayofFamilies

Mifepristone access is headed back to the Supreme Court, and so are we ⚖️ MPV joined 50+ faith organizations in an amicus brief to the Supreme Court to say: protecting religious freedom means preserving access to medication abortion — and that includes mifepristone. As the legal battle over mifepristone moves through the Court, there’s still work to do to protect access to medication abortion. Head to the link in our bio to learn more!

In this week’s book of the week, Signs on the Earth: Islam, Modernity, and the Climate Crisis, author Fazlun Khalid presents a compelling argument for those aligned with the Islamic faith to reconnect with creation in the divine order by rethinking modernity, consumerism, and industrialization. Honoring #EarthDay through the lens of stewardship 🌍 As khalifas (caretakers), we are entrusted with preserving the balance (al-mizan) of this Earth, meaning we must lead with intention, consume with care, and walk in humility. In a time marked by excess and neglect, upholding this commandment from God is more urgent than ever.
