I am having sooo much fun writing it and I can't wait for you all to meet Naia Agbayani and Nuno, her baby crocodile spirit guide š

A local librarian emailed me to let me know that DEATH IN THE CARDS was the winner of the 2026 Tournament of Books (reviewers' bracket)!
They explained that the Tournament of Books "is an annual bracket-style competition featuring 32 Young Adult books from the previous year. The books are reviewed in rounds by Illinois teen library staff as part of the Young Adult Services Forum, a networking group of teen library professionals within the Illinois Library Association."
Such an honor to be recognized by teen librarians in my home state. Thanks to all of you who voted for my book, and for all the work you do! Check out the amazing competition I was up against at their website: /2026-tournament-of-books/

To celebrate, I had lunch at @rubysfastfoodchicago , the place I always recommend if you're looking for good, homestyle Filipino food (like the kind at Tita Rosieās Kitchen) š
My husband and I split BBQ pork skewers, sisig, and mixcilog (tapa, tocino, and longanisa w/ garlic rice & fried egg) plus a melon juice for me
Then we went to @umagabakehouse for pastries: mini ensaymada sampler, buko pie slice, ube cinnamon roll, carioca, bibingka croissant, pan de coco, and longanisa roll šš„š«
Huge thanks to all my readers and everyone who's helped me get this far. Love love! š

Book description:
Love is in the air for the citizens of Shady Palms, but Cupidās arrow isnāt the only thing striking the townānot with another killer on the loose.
Things are looking up for the Brew-ha Cafe, and Lila Macapagal canāt think of anything that could break the spell, especially with Valentineās Day coming upāshe canāt wait to celebrate with her boyfriend, Jae Park. Adding to the lovey-dovey atmosphere is Hana Lee, Shady Palmsās newest resident. Sheās also Jaeās beloved cousin and chocolatier at Choco Noir, the latest addition to the townās culinary offerings. Everything is coming into place for Hana, who left her old life in Minnesota behind to work at Choco Noir, owned by her best friend.
Unfortunately, beneath the sweet surface of Shady Palms runs a bitter undercurrent, as a series of attacks against women-owned businesses in the area escalates from petty theft to assault and murder when Hana is found knocked unconscious inside Choco Noir, and the chocolate shop owner is put out of businessāfor good.
With Hana left in a coma, a murderer hiding amongst them, and the safety of the women entrepreneurs of Shady Palms at risk, the Park brothers team up with the Brew-ha crew to put a stop to the villain before they strike again.
