Does any AGV fit any operation?❓🤖 The short answer is: no. In this video, for example, we see a low-profile AGV with extendable forks, mainly designed for floor-to-floor transport. These robots are especially well suited for repetitive, well-defined flows, with clear routes and no need to handle loads at height. That said, even though (like forklift AGVs) they use forks, they are not the same. When an operation requires working with racking, handling loads at different heights or performing more complex tasks, other types of solutions come into play, such as forklift-type robots, which involve a very different logic, kinematics and level of complexity. There are also platform robots, designed to transport boxes or pallets by supporting the load on top; mouse-type robots, which move wheeled carts or containers using an under-hook or towing mechanism; and more flexible AMRs, including solutions designed for outdoor environments, such as autonomous tractors, each with its own operational fit.
