This season, Catskill Park Stewards are gearing up with the knowledge and tools to help protect the Catskills while supporting visitors on the trails. During recent DEC rules and regulations training, our stewards strengthened their understanding of responsible recreation, public safety, and environmental stewardship. 🥾🌲
Stewards also learned radio communication skills to stay connected in the field and reviewed BearWise principles to help educate hikers on coexisting safely with wildlife. 🐻
From trailheads to mountaintops, our stewards are ready to help keep the Catskills safe, welcoming, and protected for everyone!

🚨 New findings you need to know about! On April 30, Catskill Mountainkeeper released an independent review of NYSDOT's Route 17 Mobility & Access Improvements Project — and the results are eye-opening 👀
Expert analysis by Norm Marshall of Smart Mobility, Inc. found that widening proposals are based on outdated data, flawed methodology, and that corridor-wide expansion of NY 17 would not be cost effective.
📅 Join the ReThink Route 17 Alliance and Norm Marshall for a Virtual Town Hall on May 13th at 6 PM to hear the full findings.

A new independent analysis of the Route 17 project confirms what local communities have long understood, widening of Route 17 is unnecessary and too costly🗣️
Drivers, riders and walkers in the Hudson Valley all deserve safe, fast transportation choices to get around. This new study provides the evidence that highway widening is not the solution, and targeted interventions could better address concerns. With $1.4 billion on the table, we want to see the state take this targeted approach and direct additional funding towards community-oriented solutions🙌
