The word “Forestalgia” may have another more literal meaning. But what it means for me is the longing for a future when I can go solo into an alpine forest.
So I basically live in a state of forestalgia.

Here are a few images from my micro, backcountry adventure a couple weeks ago. Not another person in this entire magical sanctuary.
24 hours away is all your nervous system needs to noticeably settle down.
72 hours away from screens and chaos and human made noises, sleeping on the ground and drinking wild water will give you a full reset. (Go alone and you get bonus points.)

I spent eight days in the backcountry of Arizona this month. New places, new perspectives, and new birds. Good friends and good dogs. I’m embarrassed to say, I had never been to the east side of the state! What an outstanding adventure. 🥰

Been doing a bit of exploration the past week and a half. Here’s the “glamour recap” of the upper section of the west fork of oak creek drainage. Because the reality was a thrashing and several mandatory swims. Pure Joy! Stella enjoyed the swims, but NOT the floating log jam. Bears and briars and more birds than I’ve ever heard in one place. Exquisite.
