It was great to celebrate the ribbon cutting for Orchard Grove and Orchard Manor apartments, two Communities First, Inc. developments that will bring 74 mixed-income rental units to Flint. The Mott Foundation was pleased to grant $900,000 to help support this project, which offers quality, affordable housing that welcomes everyone. This is the kind of development that doesn't just house people — it helps strengthen an entire neighborhood. Congratulations to Communities First and its partners for making this project a reality! "Something powerful is happening in our community. Schools are collaborating. Educators are learning from one another. Families are engaged. And partners across the public, private and philanthropic sectors are rowing in the same direction. "When we all come together to support our families, Flint kids thrive. And when Flint kids thrive, our community thrives," said Ridgway White, Mott Foundation president and CEO. Mexican pride, the energy of live music, and the aroma of fresh street food filled Buckham Alley on Saturday in celebration of Cinco de Mayo! The Latinx Technology & Community Center hosted the family-friendly event in the heart of downtown Flint, bringing together flavors from across Latin America — from Honduran pupusas to Argentinian chipas to classic street tacos. The holiday has become a major source of pride for Chicano activists and remains a vibrant celebration of Mexican American culture and the broader Latinx community. The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation is pleased to support LTCC in its many programs and services that enhance dignity and quality of life for the Flint and Genesee County Latinx community, as well as people from other cultures. ______________ ¡El orgullo mexicano, la energía de la música en vivo y el aroma de la comida callejera llenaron Buckham Alley el sábado en celebración del Cinco de Mayo! What happens when young people are encouraged to believe in their own ideas? Kim Dehmel, youth entrepreneurship coordinator at the Genesee Intermediate School District, shares what students in Genesee County say they gain from youth entrepreneurship programs. GISD’s Final Pitch Competition this afternoon brings those benefits to life, giving students the chance to think creatively, connect with peers and build confidence. Experiences like these stay with them far beyond the classroom. #Mott100Voices #YouthEntrepreneurship #GeneseeCounty #EntrepreneurshipEducation @genesee_isd
