KISD @ LUCID DREAMS Festival 2026 – Motion Experience Lab meets the Master Class Experimental Media at FH St. Pölten @lucid_dreams_ustp The Motion Experience Lab from @kisdinternational is coming to St. Pölten.
On May 22 and 23, the Köln International School of Design (@th_koeln ) will be part of the LUCID DREAMS Festival with an extended student project program from the Image & Motion field, led by Prof. Nina Juric. She brings 15 Integrated Design students, along with MXL alumni Nima Hülshorst and Julian Spath, who are teaching as guest lecturers this semester. Their bachelor projects from the Köln International School of Design are being further developed specifically for the Lucid Dreams Festival. Under the title happy palace, the LUCID DREAMS Festival at Bühne im Hof constructs a space of the ephemeral. Following previous chapters on AI, [digital] fungi, and STONEAGE, a palace of perception emerges—a transitional zone between the precariousness of the real and the dreamlike qualities of the virtual. A shimmering space of data, myths, and glitches that raises the question: who is allowed to enter—and what remains outside its luminous gates? A central element of the contribution to happy palace is a student-led MXL production team that develops a spatial and atmospheric media framework for the exhibition space at Bühne im Hof. It shapes the visual and acoustic presence, as well as the overall media staging and public representation of KISD within the festival context. The festival presents over 50 international positions. In this 10 days shortterm project from last year, vvvv became a political instrument. We dissect, sample and recontextualise texts from protest songs – live and audio-visually. We asked: What happens when code meets resistance? What happens when Type meets Motion? For this MXL project, we were inviting media artist, instrument inventor & creative coder Christoph Kirmaier from Vienna, with whom Prof. NJU was developing a custom MXL lib in vvvv. He introduced @kisdesign and @codeandcontext students to the basics of vvvv with the aim of working together on a performative and collaborative ‘resistant outline of simultaneities’ and progress in this practice based design research. – VVVV is a visual programming environment for real-time graphics, interaction and generative design. This interface is particularly strong in performative applications as it enables fluid, non-linear processes. We relied on a special feature called VL.Kairos in vvvv and use the MXL in its networked infrastructure to design. A final public presentation took place in R240 at the end of the class. When it comes to timelines and tools for creating data narratives, vvvv has never had many options. Kairos is not only a tool that finally fulfils this need.It also offers a wide range of options for managing live data and controlling your applications. Based on an understanding of the essence of the Kairos principles, we familiarised ourselves with the library’s node set and put together some application scenarios. Re-assemble. Resist. @codeandcontext student Henning Brode @henningbrode accomplished his final thesis at his dedicated sound space: Club FI. Yesterday he presented and defended his thesis «Light in Sound–Space: Entwicklung einer Open-Source Lichtsteuerung zur (Semi-)Automatisierung der Lichtgestaltung in Klangräumen». Along house music of a playing DJ, he demonstrated the sound-reactive light control system developed in @touchdesigner with OSC interface on an iPad, effecting a lightning equipped club architecture on a variety of embedded fixtures in realtime. - Additionally to the technical part, he wrapped his research up in a 1hour-documentary, for which he investigated on light systems in Cologne’s club culture and talked to light technicians and artists to understand this realm and user needs from different perspectives. MXL ON AIR: UR1/VVЯ – AV Performance within HUMAN INPUT / 23th, Jan 26 · Berghain Kantine, Berlin This week, MXL ON AIR takes place in a special edition dedicated to the rehearsal process of UR1/VVЯ, a 15-minute live light and sound performance produced, performed, and directed by Nele Oberbiermann @neles0n and Lio Vast @liovast together with their team. The rehearsals are part of a self-initiated project supervised by Prof. Nina Juric in the teaching and research area of Image & Motion at KISD's @motionexperience . Conceived as open working sessions, they are explicitly dedicated to testing, feedback, and the continuous improvement of the final audio-visual work. Also the public visitors serve an audience, which is a crucial role in the relation system. Dear fellow @kisdesign students, and anyone interested, punk, Since the beginning of the semester, we (Carlos Strohm @carlos__lust and Jakob Troll @jakob_trll ) have been working on a visual show for the band Iedereen - @iedereen.de - as part of our self initiated project. The band is currently on tour and will be performing on Thursday, December 11th, in Gebäude 09 (tickets available at: https://popanz.ticket.io/c4h3e364/?lang=de). For the development of the audiovisual live set, we are using Resolume Arena and TouchDesigner, among other tools. Shortly before the show, we would like to warmly invite you to a public dress rehearsal as MXL Learning By Listening Session: Wednesday, December 10th, 2026 Starting at 2:30 PM Duration: approx. 75 minutes Location: KISD, Ubierring 40, Room 404, Motion Experience Lab We will run through the entire set once and give you insights into our design and technical process. This includes our approach to integrating live camera feeds as well as the art direction, which we developed ourselves.
