“A friend of mine told me he had visited the place that Cancer House live and record. He said they jammed together all afternoon. In the moment, in the zone so to speak, he became more and more convinced that what they were making together was the best music he had ever been involved with. As the afternoon drifted by, second by revelatory second, he began making grandiose plans to release the recording. By the time it was dark outside the windows he imagined it as a future lost classic, a key live document of a scene, a moment and an aesthetic. He thought about all the records he loved. He thought about the great, little known, statements of lo-fi, downer indie: dark, sweet, crawling guitar music by bands like Farewood, Bedhead, UN or The Sonora Pine. He could even picture the sleeve down to the last detail.
The session ended and as they were all packing up he asked about the recording. And someone said ‘oh, we weren’t recording.’”

*Announcing a new album today*
“Lonesome for a Storm” is the result of a felt sense in the summer of 2024. A fleeting feeling in the body meditated on and played through a restrained palette of instruments and found sound. LFAS is Gustav Kemps’s first solo album under his own name, but he’s been a frequent behind the scenes collaborator in various other bands (if you can connect the dots, there’s a lot to find). Mystery can be fun, but this album of his feels tender and generous in what it conveys.

Since Lavurn’s debut album I’ve been a bit obsessed. This new record of his feels like a different world than the first one, favoring sounds that call to the turn of the millenium. It’s lovesick yet energizing, and holds space for a range of emotional states. I keep coming back to it.
