natives know how to take care of the land, controlled burns, real stewardship, but when the wrong people start making decisions, shit gets out of hand. the karuk and yurok tribes up north have been doing cultural burns forever, but the government pushed ‘em out, said they knew better. wildfires just got worse. i remember in college, this man asked me “how do we stop wildfires from causing harm ?” then he answered himself “give the land back to the natives.” since i’m talking about the land i want to also talk about the rivers. tribes that lived off fishing for generations can’t even practice their own traditions bc of the dams blocking the salmon, poisoning the water. people been fighting just to get their waters back. that’s food, that’s culture, that’s life they had to fight to reclaim.
another thing i want to mention is MMIW, indigenous women go missing, most cases don’t get investigated, don’t make the news. the cops, the system, they don’t care. indigenous families stay searching. still fighting. and the system stays quiet.
also, they make it damn near impossible for native people to vote. no polling places on reservations, tribal IDs don’t count, mail-in ballots get “lost.” they call it co-management, but they pick the voices that fit their plan. non-natives get the mic, while those who know the land get pushed aside.
@lagrimascrust hit the stage and spit the truth, “fuck ICE, fuck all cops” and suddenly they were “out of time”. dave and busters couldn’t kill the noise even when they cut the mics
shoutout everybody!
