The end.
This work has a complicated meaning in my mind. Not only is it the death scene of a character I've spent so long developing, but it is a representation of the complex grief that comes with losing someone to a battle that directly harmed you. Does it have to be about death? Not particularly. But it is about the way a life is cut short with grief.
This work was made on a whim. It hurt to make. It felt great after I left it out. I don't think I'll be able to make something that makes me feel this conflicted ever again.

The second painting in this series represents the complex feelings that come with realizing that your parent isn't the person you thought they were growing up.
The main character, Jenn, is discovering her mother's double life. She is learning about the reality of her mother's addiction and the implications it has on their family.

This is one of the first paintings I finished for this series. I wanted this painting to feel like a romanticized view of a parent that you have as a child.
This series has been a labor of love, has made me cry in the studio, but it's also one of my favorite series of works that I've made in a long time. I cannot wait to show the full series the day of the capstone opening!
