I often get asked if anyone has ever made a knock off of one of my pieces and people are surprised when I tell them I’ve seen a fast fashion dupe of legitimately about 50% of things I ever make! Sometimes within 2-3 weeks after I post the design. For me… while I do find art theft sad it’s actually not that aspect that really bothers me and it’s rather this… My brand was built on the premise of being as eco friendly as possible and trying to recycle even a tiny fraction of the 92 million tons of textile waste that ends up in the landfill each year… yes each year that is a real number.
You start to wonder is it possible to ever have an ethical fashion brand if everything small designers create ends up being made by the thousands by fast fashion companies in polyester?!
I don’t know the answer and I can only really control my own output since these companies are overseas. 🙃
I know cheap clothes can be very tempting so thank you to everyone who has supported my small brand over the year. The impact these companies have is crazy but the impact my customers have had over my life as an individual is also crazy so thank you!
