I really had to force myself to seek out something beautiful and peaceful today. Threw myself out into the world and just begged Mother Nature to provide a semblance of comfort while our world feels so broken ❤️🩹
My heart is broken for Alex Pretti and his family, for Minnesota, and for our country. For every person vilified for their skin color, their accent, their homeland, their religion, their identity and for merely existing in opposition to our government’s hateful agenda. For 10 years I’ve lived with this fear, this knowing of what was coming, as the writing has always been on the wall. They have never shied away from expressing their cruelty, outlining how they would weaponize it, and who would suffer in the end. They showed us who they were from the very beginning as they popularized hate speech and gave an open platform to racism. Which is why I find absolutely no joy in having an “I told you so” moment, because I never wanted to live through this; I never wanted us to be here. Now a good man, a nurse, a helper, is being demonized for simply helping others in his last moments. I think that’s what hits close to home, because so many of us see ourselves in him. There is absolutely nothing I would have done differently than him in those final moments…Record the cruelty, run to help others, ball myself up on the pavement while beaten by a mob of uniforms meant to protect not harm. I could be that body, I could be that scapegoat, I could be the lie passing through our government’s lips. And so could each and every one of us. 💔
May we find a path forward where we protect all children, where we see people as neighbors and not “aliens” or “monsters”, where helpers are honored not vilified, where we recognize we are stronger and more beautiful together, and where a few men in power can never tear us apart. ❤️🩹
Wishing exactly this for 2026…vibrancy, boldness, celebrating other cultures, endlessly seeking new adventures, and everything all wrapped up with a bit of whimsy ❤️
