Nick Herbert is the founder and creative director of Shelflife, South Africa’s most iconic and pivotal sneaker streetwear destination. He started by importing Montana spray paint for local graffiti writers, then opened the store in 2006, helping build a market for limited drops and artist led storytelling. From early Nike launches to the Shelflife & Jordan collaboration, Nick keeps South African street culture in global conversation, continues to platform local artists and makers.

Taiwan! Had the pleasure of exploring the beautiful island of Taiwan recently. I had no expectations and did little research to be surprised by everything I saw. It was mind blowing, from rising mountains of 3000m to swimming in the ocean, to the futuristic urban city. Can’t wait to go back!
After more than ten years of hearing about lesser travelled parts of Indonesia and Jakarta and many months of planning we spent 2 weeks in paradise! 3 taxi’s, a train, 3 flights and two boats got us to our final destination in the Mentawai Islands. 2 weeks of uncrowded waves and an ocean full of tropical fish. I also got to finally also see the Jakarta commuter trains, which are the retired Tokyo Metros from the 1970s something I had also heard so many stories about!
A recent trip to Albania! I’d always had a complete misconception and was told of what Albania would be, unfriendly, dangerous and dirty. In the end it was the complete opposite! I also managed to visit the Albanian trains which are becoming rarer by the year and are said to be some of the last running communist era trains left in Europe. They only run 3 times a week with 70% of the system now closed.
Beautiful Bulgaria! Been wanting to travel to Sofia for over 10 years, and finally had the chance. It far exceeded anything I could imagine! I also spent 2 days outside of Sophia and managed to visit the “Bulgarian Ufo” (The Buzludzha monument) 🇧🇬
Almost one year ago we dropped the Shelflife x Jordan 2, when you work with such similar tones and textures it becomes incredibly difficult to choose. Check out some of the samples leading up to our final release!
TEAM ONLY – I am because we are.
Different, but bound together in our belief that we exist because of one another.
Knowing that everything we achieve is made possible by those who surround us,
because making our dreams come true is a team sport and we are all one team.

Not only is Shelflife first on the whole African Continent to do a Jordan colab, which represents something so important to us.. our team. We’ve also just been featured on Nike Talking Shop on SNKRS app global. This is as big as it gets. I couldn’t be more proud. #teamonly link in bio for full video.
So happy we could finish this before traveling and getting my own copy! The Shelflife Brand Bible is finally done. Huge work from the team including our full history, brand ethos, and a mouthpiece to who we are, where we came from and where we are headed. A tool for our team and future team members
