My endless yard work is moving along. This path I’ve just laid needs a few rainfalls to settle before another round at leveling it. By then some stone triangles I’m having cut for edges may be ready. But it’s a relief to be this far along.
This used to be my Oz path with irregular and uneven Oz-themed stones. I moved all that and chose this smother stone to replace it that’s a safer path for my husband. I had expected a straighter line, but between tree roots as big as my arm, buried lines and old irrigation, this was as close as I could get. It leads from the back patio to the side porch.
Tiny little update on the Oz section of my garden. The creeping yellow thyme seeds have sprouted! I may actually get yellow ground cover where I want it!!
Today’s mail had a fun surprise, I recently purchased a 1951 Chinese copy of The Wizard of Oz, only to discover it’s Volkov’s Magic Land! I recognized the illustrations, checked the copyright page, and sure enough I have a Russian-to-Chinese edition with the Radlov illustrations.
(Oddest thing. I posted this when the mail arrived, came back to see if there were any comments, and it’s not here. Where did I post it?)
Anyone I know watch the Netflix series “You”? I stumbled into it and started watching because I can’t resist a used bookstore setting, although serial murder is not usually my genre. Then along came a shelf of gorgeous Oz books in a story arc that covered a couple episodes. I just noticed, however, that this is a five-season show and I hadn’t meant to be signing up for 50 hours of television watching. (!) But if Oz books pop up again…. If you know, just let me know.
Rather unlike me to share this, but I’m really pleased with this “Wicked” bag from Lug that I just arrived. It’s green and gold. It says “Oz” with stitching that gives that detail extra contrast and a bit of shine. And it’s a perfect size to hold what little I need to carry in a daily bag. I kept resisting over the price point given that I never actually use any of the Oz purses and bags I already have. But I kept coming back to it and am really glad I did. Solid materials and well made. Long cross-body strap for the win. A score for the Oz collection I can actually use.
Always think of Oz when we let Number Nine go back to his buddies. Yeah, he was a little one, but we catch and release, so however big he’d have been he’d still live to see another day.
This hand-colored, numbered print from Rob Roy MacVeigh was part of Steve Teller’s collection. It was one three pieces Steve loaned me for the Aberdeen Oz art exhibit earlier this summer. Steve’s son Jamie picked up the other two, but is willing to sell this one if anyone would like to make an offer. I’d need to ship it to you from Kansas City. So understand you also will have postage costs.
Post publicly or message me privately and I’ll pass all reasonable offers along for him to consider. Not Steve originally paid $130 for it unframed in 1992.
