Today we were honoured to invite Kelvyn Travis and his family to the Mayor’s Parlour to receive a Mayoral Appreciation Award for over 55 years of dedication to teaching generations of children boxing in Oldham 🥊 Kelvyn has given his life to the sport. From representing England to going on to coach at the highest level with Team GB, including playing a key role in the journey of Olympic gold medallist Audley Harrison, his impact on boxing has reached far beyond the town. But it’s his commitment to young people that truly defines him. For decades, Kelvyn has dedicated his time through boxing, including his work with @mosssidefirebox , helping young people build discipline, confidence and direction in life. Generations have come through his guidance, many of them shaped not just as boxers, but as people. What made the moment even more special was that Kelvyn had no idea he was receiving the award. Seeing his reaction, surrounded by his family, made it one he will never forget ❤️ The Mayor of Oldham, Cllr Eddie Moores, was proud to present the award, with @cllraroojshah , Leader of Oldham Council, also there to personally congratulate him and thank him for everything he has done for the town. Kelvyn’s commitment to young people has inspired so many others across our borough. His influence can be seen in gyms across Oldham today, including @nxtgenabcoldham , who continue that same work of supporting and guiding the next generation 💪 This town owes so much to heroes like Kelvyn 👏 #Oldham #Boxing #Award

Another great night of Boxing @peakyblindersmanchester last week with some terrific contests. Congratulations to Amy Nolan who picked up the Mike Dillon memorial trophy after a great contest. Also, a massive well done to all our boxers who boxed superbly giving it their all. A huge thank you to all our incredible volunteers who made the show possible. Your time, effort and dedication mean everything to our gym. Huge appreciation to everyone who came out to support our boxers. The atmosphere was unreal and it shows what our community is all about. Big thank you to all the travelling clubs who attended our show. Thank you for bringing top class talent, sportsmanship and terrific bouts. We are incredibly proud to celebrate our head coach Nigel Travis, who has been recognised in the New Year Honours List with an MBE for his outstanding services to boxing and the community through Moss Side Fire Station Boxing Club 🎖️ Founded in 2008 on three core values — Respect, Discipline and Courage. The club was built on a simple but powerful idea: to engage local young people, raise aspirations and help create positive futures. Without Nigel, this club would not exist and he really is the heart of the gym. Also, without the dedication of our volunteers and supporters who helped set up the gym, Curtis McLardie and Mike Dillon, none of this would have been possible. As a former boxer himself, Nigel credits the many people and coaches who shaped both his boxing journey and the person he has become. We are also deeply thankful for the continued support of Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service, Chief Fire Officer Dave Russell and his predecessors, and @nightmayor_2025 and the GMCA team, whose backing allows our club to operate in the way it does. On a personal note, we would like to extend a huge thank you to Nigel’s family, whose support allows him to continue the life-changing work he does in our gym. And to everyone who walks through our doors. Thank you for being part of something truly special. God Bless and Happy New Year ❤️👊🏼

Brilliant atmosphere at our last show at the @manchesterfire station in our home, Moss Side. We are incredibly grateful for the opportunities and support the fire service gives us.
