Rest in power Dr. King. You died 58 years ago fighting for garbage workers in Memphis. You are the greatest human being this country has ever produced by a solar system, maybe followed by Abraham Lincoln. Your greatness was personified by Rev. C.T. Vivian who said:”Martin always had the Bible in one hand and the constitution in the other. He shoned both of them on the U.S. like mirrors.” You also believed as your Dexter Avenue Baptist church predecessor Rev. Vernon Johns, said that the Bible was:”the handbook of democracy and the poor man’s best friend!” In perilous times I am heartened by your saying that: “ right temporarily defeated is stronger than evil triumphant!”
Today Malaika won 2nd place citywide in the DC National History day competition. She is advancing to the Nationals. Her project was on Abolitionist John Brown! So PROUD of this 12 year old!!
The 53rd annual DC Morehouse College Glee Club is always a blast!! Such a magnificent performance and a magnificent INSTITUTION! Lots of guests including U.S. Senator Angela Alsebrooks, who went to Banneker High School with me in the 1980’s!!
Today is the 61st anniversary of Bloody Sunday in Selma, AL. I have been to Selma over 15 times. I believe those grounds are as sacred as Gettysburg, Guadalcanal or Ft. Sumner. I had the pleasure in Nov 2023 to take my two children there.
Rest in power Mr. Bernard Lafayette. You were a Freedom Rider, organizer of the Selma Campaign and a soldier in Dr. King’s efforts that CHANGED this country for the better! It was an honor to meet you and your wife in 2023!
Rev. Jackson was one the greatest Americans of the 20th century. He was part of the JOSHUA generation because HE was a soldier in Moses’s (Rev. King) army. When I met him with Ms. Mignon Clyburn he said : “where you go to school BOY?” I exclaimed Morehouse Rev. Jackson. He smiled and slyly said: “ you are part of that MOREHOUSE CULT!” As you said so many times: “ suffering breeds character, character breeds faith and in the end, faith will not disappoint!” Love you SIR!
Happy 159th birthday Morehouse College! The college is on firm ground and growing. Appreciative of Stacy and Shannon for their hospitality at the dinner. Had a BLAST!! And the best part of the weekend were all the guys that kept coming up to me saying:”aren’t you Kimathi’s brother?” True FOREVER!
