ANT - 107: INSTITUTE - S/T 7” is out today. It’s truly a blessing that the band were able to get together (now that they’re split between Texas and New York) and present us with these three new tracks. All three songs equally strong, yet all different in their own rights. There’s a gaping Anti-(US)-Government theme in Moses Brown’s lyrics which ties the EP together beautifully. You get your most “classic” early style Institute on the A side, as the anarcho rhythm section and sprawling lead breaks reminiscent of Crisis echo through. Then on side B they slow it down with a new sludgey bass-line driven jam complete with Eastern-styled psychedelic guitars and further shitting on US politics. As a long time fan of Institute, I’m honoured to say the least to be involved in this record, and so damn excited to see them play live next month. The festival is sold out but if you’re half-interested in punk music, I’d urge you to get a ticket to one of their side shows. Not to be missed.
