Our August Intensive will offer a unique opportunity to explore contemporary dance with former Pina Bausch rehearsal director Thusnelda Mercy. Students will workshop directly with Thusnelda, whose artistic voice and experience have contributed to some of the most influential contemporary works of our time. Her career includes collaborations with internationally renowned choreographers such as Sasha Waltz, while she also continues to transmit the repertoire of Pina Bausch internationally. We are delighted to welcome back Claudia Phlips as a guest teacher for our August Summer Intensive, where she will be teaching contemporary dance and leading a choreographic workshop. Claudia Phlips received her training at the Royal Ballet School Antwerp. Graduating in 2006, she participated in a first project for young dancers at the Europa Dance in Cannes. She then joined the Opera Ballet Vlaanderen as a member of the corps de ballet. A few years later she became a half-soloist and danced several choreographies of William Forsythe, Jorma Elo, Nicolo Fonte, Edward Clug, and Jìri Kylian. In 2015, at the invitation of director/choreographer Jacopo Godani, Claudia was recruited into the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company. In 2018, she left professional dancing behind to fully focus on other of her talents. Claudia has already created several choreographies for professional performances and schools and, in addition, passionately, she passes on her years of experience to emerging dance talent in the form of workshops specializing in 'Jacopo Godani style.’
