Another rescore! For the opening of An American Werewolf in London, I relied entirely on notation software playback (NotePerformer), without creating a sample mockup myself. Knowing that the movie is dark but also comedic I was trying to strike a balance between the two, using the misty Yorkshire moors as a canvas for a playful yet ominous musical trajectory. Inspired by mid-20th-century film scores, John Williams’ orchestrated quirks, Stravinsky textures, and subtle nods to Herrmann’s Psycho, I leaned into more traditional orchestration and incorporated creative techniques, e.g., mimicking wolf-like howls. Composing entirely in notation software reminded me of its strengths and that strong musical ideas and orchestration can come through in a playback engine demo even without flashy samples and at the cost of less realism.

My attempt to rescore the chase scene from the same episode (S2E2), starting with a dark, ghostly soundsphere as the murder mystery is revealed, evolving into a more menacing tone that kickstarts the chase, building intensity to a dramatic climax, and finally resolving into a soft, sombre aftermath that brings emotional weight and closure.

A rescore of Sherlock (BBC): The Hounds of Baskerville, reimagining the cold opening, main titles, and a short comedic sequence, moving from psychological tension to playful wit. Dark drones, a waltzing main theme including a tack piano reflecting Sherlock’s ramshackled personality, create a musical world where trauma, intellect, and humour collide.
Music for the 2022 BIFSC clip "Genesis". Had a lot of fun with this one and gained some new insights into the craft of creating realistic orchestral mock-ups. Still lots to learn. Let me know what you think. Any feedback is welcome!
We’ve had a great session last week in the #TownshendStudio with composer-lecturer @ninoauricchio , exploring synths sounds and composition processes.
Well done to our BMus students Sunghoon Lee and Morris Bachmann for presenting to new exciting works! Very much looking forward to their performances at our next Composition Festival.

This is my composition for this semester‘s orchestration module. Although I did not produce a full orchestral mock-up, I utilized NotePerformer playback (not the most realistic) to provide a conceptual auditory representation of its potential sound.
Please overlook the subpar engraving and layout in some areas. The written score is intended purely to showcase the intricacies of the composition.
Thank you @simonespagnolo for being a superb teacher! It has been very invigorating and made me realise how much there is to learn still.
