I live in Hamiltonās north end which was well known for being a gritty place in a gritty city. I recently wrote this song inspired by an older couple who lived next door to me. He had just turned 90 and was the kind of guy you could tell had a pretty wild life and was seen still buzzing around the neighbourhood on his gas-powered bike (yes bike, yes gas powered).
This past summer his health began to decline, and when his wife was hospitalized for several days, it was clear how deeply connected they were. Watching him sit alone on the porch drinking, overwhelmed and uncertain about what was coming next was heartbreaking. She thankfully returned home, but soon after it was decided they would have to move into an old age home.
āForgotten Rebelsā is loosely based on that experience. It reflects on two people who have lived a full life together, still holding on to love and memory, while quietly facing the reality that their time together is finite. Itās about resilience, aging, and appreciating every moment.

Most people know Iām a big hockey fan, but Iām also a longtime TSN fan (their radio shows and Leafs broadcasts are the best, IMO). Thatās why I was especially excited to work on the audiobook version of @tsnduthie ās new book Certified Beauties. Itās a fantastic read (or listen!), and James was a pleasure to work with. The book and audiobook drop this fall. Highly recommended!
