We were beyond honoured when
@hortamuseum 's curator and Director Benjamin Zurstrassen reached out to us last year to see if we could set up a collaboration that bridged the gap between Victor Horta’s work and our work for
@morpho.world . The result is this photo shoot, where we were allowed to shoot the pieces by
@greatlibrarydesignstudio (where Dieter is creative director) as an installation inside this amazing landmark where Victor Horta himself used to live and work.
When we started the journey of creating and designing MORPHO years ago, we aimed for the collection to be a modern interpretation of the historical Art Nouveau movement that our home country of Belgium is very well known for.
It felt like a natural fit for the design style we were developing for our sister studio
@greatlibrarydesignstudio , and biophilic design with historical nods embodies the spirit of our partner in this adventure,
@tomorrowland , very well.
In the development of MORPHO, Art Nouveau legend Victor Horta has been an invaluable inspiration, a north star that sets the bar in a rich architectural tradition. In a world where we are moving towards standardization, simplicity and uniformity, Horta’s work and legacy feels like a direct antidote to this.
Layered details, expressive materials and movement, the complete approach to design and craftsmanship are the things in the Horta ethos we relate to (and aim for) very much in our own work.
For the occasion, we dressed up the pieces in custom fabrics to match the incredible house, leaning into the comprehensive character of the total design.
It was an incredible full circle moment having the opportunity to style and shoot these pieces in the Horta Museum. It was also quite emotional for us to see that the pieces blended very well, and that we got to be a small part of this rich tradition.
Thank you Horta Museum for giving us this great opportunity and letting us pay homage. Truly a once in a lifetime experience.
