MoRoots Unveils Haunting New Single “Tulo”
The song offers a striking glimpse into the singer’s creative identity, showing an artist unafraid to experiment with sound while maintaining emotional depth.
From the opening moments, “Tulo” creates a mysterious mood. The production feels heavy and fluid at the same time, built around layered textures that move like waves beneath her voice. MoRoots’ vocal performance remains the highlight, carrying a raw intensity that gives the song its emotional weight.
There is a sense of tension throughout the record, but it never feels chaotic. Instead, the arrangement grows slowly, allowing each element to find its place. The result is a sound that feels both modern and timeless, combining alternative influences with soulful expression.

Featured on her new EP, ROOTED, and recorded in Dolby Atmos, “Tulo” takes cues from “Tulo Tulo Kwata ‘Omwana,” a famous Luganda lullaby. Through this track, @moroots explores the narrative of motherhood and the trials, trauma, and triumphs that accompany it. “It is a mother singing to her child,” she shares. “The song celebrates the strength of motherhood and the prayer a mother would have for her children: to be fierce, to live long, and to be strong.
For someone who describes herself as a “part-time struggling traditional dancer,” what stands out even more in the clip is @moroots 's short dance routine at the end with famed dancer @sirunclewalter , which adds a playful flair to the visual narrative.

Coming in hot from the UK 🇬🇧
Crossing continents, time zones and creative worlds, is @moroots , Head of Spirit Innovations, Africa at @diageo .
Maureen’s journey has always been about voice: finding it, shaping it, and making space for others to use theirs. She’s a storyteller at heart, a builder of ideas that honour the continent, and a relentless advocate for women creatives finally being seen, heard, and credited for the work they pour their brilliance into.
Which is why her keynote hits differently.
“I Think You Are On Mute.”
A phrase we’ve all heard: but for Maureen, it’s a metaphor for what so many women in creativity experience: Our ideas are smart, our instincts are sharp, our work is exceptional… yet the room doesn’t always hear us.
Maureen is here to change that; Her passion for African creativity is loud. Her passion for African women is even louder.
At SIBI Connect: Nairobi, she’ll unpack what it means to unmute yourself: boldly, unapologetically in an industry that hasn’t always made room for your voice.
See you on 29 November 2025. 💛
