It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our icon and legend, Professor Leon Bridges, FAIA, NOMAC, who passed away on the morning of April 13, 2026. While the world knew him as a trailblazing architect, we knew him best as a devoted educator. After a distinguished career in private practice, he joined the Morgan State University School of Architecture and Planning in 2005, serving as a professor until his retirement in 2019. For 14 years, he was the heart of our program—a teacher who didn't just lecture on design, but who actively prepared the next generation of architects to lead with ingenuity and social responsibility. Professor Bridges was more than a faculty member; he was a mentor and a friend to every student lucky enough to cross his path. He possessed a unique ability to bring people together, fostering a spirit of curiosity that continues to guide our academic community. Many of us will remember him for his sharp wit, his deep listening during office hours, and the way he generously shared a lifetime of knowledge to help us find our own voices in the profession. His legacy lives on in the careers he shaped and the values he instilled in each of us. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Mrs. Eloise, and his entire family during this difficult time. #morgansap #leonbridges #FAIA #blackarchitect @bmorenomaorg @aiabaltimore @build.arch.morgan @aiasmorganstate Words by Bmore NOMA and School of Architecture and Planning

All Paws In is Back! Help SA+P Reach Our Goal! The highly anticipated "All Paws In" campaign has returned, and we are calling on the School of Architecture and Planning (SA+P) community to make a significant impact! Last year, with the generous pledges from our alumni, SA+P made a massive difference. Although we didn't hit our $5,000 goal, this year we are determined to reach that milestone! If all 1,953 of our dedicated followers contribute just $10, we could raise an incredible $19,530, soaring past our target! Your ongoing generosity is the reason we were able to award over $280,000 in student aid this past academic year. Let's keep this incredible momentum going to support the next generation of architects and planners. Donate Today! Go to our link or text AllPawsIn42 to 71777 to receive a secure giving link. #morgansap #allpawsin #give #morganstateu #MorganMade @morganstateu

We are delighted to share very exciting news! Alanna Jackson and Jawaan Johnson, students in Architecture and Environmental Design (AREN), earned third place at the Disney Imagineer National Competition, competing against architecture schools from across the United States. Competing under the team name AJ Squared, their project, Above It All – The Elevated Campus Experience, stood out for its creativity and innovation. We are incredibly proud of Alanna and Jawaan for this outstanding achievement, as well as their faculty sponsor, Assistant Professor Howard Mack for his guidance and support.

As part the Higher Education Clean Energy (HECE) Project at Morgan State University, the School of Architecture and Planning (SAP) in collaboration with GEMM COMM recently convened local and regional stakeholders to establish a grassroots-informed approach to Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS) education, one that is practical, coordinated, and responsive to the realities faced by building owners and operators. The outreach effort is designed to help stakeholders: * Navigate compliance requirements and reporting cycles * Understand short- and long-term energy performance targets * Identify pathways to improve building efficiency and operational outcomes #morganstateuniversity #morgansap

Exciting Update from Morgan State University’s School of Architecture & Planning! This spring, we were proud to welcome back Home U in partnership with @homegoods and Black Interior Designers, Inc. @blackinteriordesignersinc , a groundbreaking program created to empower emerging interior design and architecture talent with the tools, scholarships, and access needed to thrive in the home industry. Session I was facilitated by distinguished design professional Avery Johnson, owner of Avery Johnson Interior Design, who shared how storytelling is central to his design practice and how it helps capture the true essence of a space. Session II was led by distinguished design professional Kiyonda Hill-Powell, who provided invaluable insight into budgeting, sourcing, and pricing. Her session helped Home U scholars develop a stronger, more practical understanding of the financial foundations of design. Scholars explored what to expect when working with clients, how to source materials effectively, and how to create realistic, thoughtful budgets. We’re inspired by the talent, curiosity, and growth of our Home U scholars and are grateful to our partners and speakers for continuing to invest in the next generation of designers.
