Join JVP and Amy Goodman on Wednesday May 13th at 5:30pm for a screening of STEAL THIS STORY, PLEASE! followed by a special Q&A with Amy Goodman and JVP. STEAL THIS STORY, PLEASE! is a new documentary about Amy Goodman and Democracy Now! directed by Oscar-nominated filmmakers. It follows Amy Goodman’s three decades-long career holding the powerful to account and crafts a portrait of journalism’s power — and peril — in an era of corporate control of the news and growing political attacks on democracy and freedom of press. JVP’s organizing is featured in the documentary, and we will be tabling at the screening. UPDATE: This screening is now SOLD OUT! But there will be another screening on Tues 5/19 at 6pm at the IFC Center. Amy Goodman will be doing a Q&A there as well.

Such a beautiful NYC launch for @jbethiejean ’s new memoir “Song For a Hard-Hit People: A Memoir of Anti-Racist Solidarity From a Coal Miner’s Daughter,” out now from @haymarketbooks . Her story and her work with @showingupforracialjustice and in Kentucky is situated in a long tradition of white working class organizing, including the 1921 Battle of Blair Mountain—the largest Union uprising in American history, in which Black and white Appalachian coal miners joined forces to fight the companies that were exploiting them, all wearing red bandanas to signify they wanted a union, which is where the term “redneck” came from—and Kentucky’s own legendary Ann Braden. Get this beautiful testimony of survival, grit, collectivity, joy, militancy, and awakening for you and a friend. It will become required reading for white people looking to divest from white supremacy and join multiracial movements for justice. We have to win our people back from the right (and the neoliberal democrats). We have so much to learn from our southern, rural, and Appalachian comrades. We must refuse the classist propaganda that us northerners often promote to distance OURSELVES from taking responsibility for our states’/regions’ role in enabling fascism, racism, corporate greed, and disinvestment. We have a world to win. We must bring in as many people as possible to this fight. Thank you Beth for this new tool for us to do that. (Perfect shirt by @raquel_dia )

Anyone who has come to @canibefrankshow or has talked to me for 5 seconds knows what downtown dance legend @neilgberg means to me. (Neil was one of Frank Maya’s partners and devoted archivists, and has been an angel throughout the process of making the show.) Any of his students from his many years teaching at the New School will tell you the same. Now is a moment we can show Neil how much we mean it. On February 23, Neil lost his beloved partner of nearly 30 years, Frank Mullaney, to cancer. Legendary theater artists Lois Weaver and Peggy Shaw have organized a fundraiser to cover the $56,000 medical expenses Neil was left with. They have about $17,000 left to raise. Can you pitch in? The world of queer performance and theater that we inhabit was made possible by Neil, Peggy, Lois, and so many more whose names we know and don’t know. In gratitude to them, and in honor of Frank Mullaney, please give what you can. /f/help-neil-pay-for-the-air-ambulance-that-brought-frank-home

Please everybody go order Harriet Clark’s profound new novel so many years in the making, The Hill, out May 5 from @fsgbooks . It is about the devastation imprisonment does to a family, and also about the ways family pierces through prison walls. This book is beautiful abolitionist literature. May all the prisons empty and may all families reunite and in the meantime may we encircle those inside and impacted by state captivity in all its forms. @harrietisme

"The Bunds' idea of having a Jewish party, it was never a separatist idea. It was something where they envisioned these countries that would be multicultural, where everyone could be celebrated, everyone could have schools in their own language, have theatre, have cultural institutions, but also they would be together fighting for a better world. It wasn't a separatist project, it was rather an insistence on equality while also a commitment to fight alongside others."⁣ ⁣ HERE WHERE WE LIVE IS OUR COUNTRY is a New York Times bestseller!!! ⁣ ⁣ Author Molly Crabapple and performer and writer Morgan Bassichis recently joined us in the PRH studios for a lively, inspiring conversation about the history of the Bund, the critical role of solidarity, and what exactly it took to extract this rich history from the archives (in a way only Molly could). ⁣ ⁣ Watch the full conversation at the link in our bio, and if you don't have a copy of Molly's book yet — don't you wish you did?

Join us for a first of its kind, hybrid cross-movement event addressing the harm the NYT has caused to our movements and communities—including to trans folks, Palestinians, Black folks, and working people. Hear from a panel of movement and media leaders about how NYT coverage and op-eds directly inform dangerous legislation domestically and manufacture consent for U.S.-led war and genocide globally. Passages from the New York War Crimes will be read and clips from the documentary Heightened Scrutiny will be played. Qween Jean will lead a final address. This evening aims to offer an alternative to this corporate and state-powered attempt to silo our communities and struggles. Our movements demand journalism far superior and with more moral integrity than what we have in the New York Times. By refusing to accept narratives that deem anyone as dispensable, we affirm our commitment to a future where all life is precious, and all people are deserving of self-determination, dignity, and respect. Part of a series of national conversations organized by the team behind the documentary Heightened Scrutiny. Co-organized by Adalah Justice Project, Black Trans Liberation, Jewish Voice for Peace-NYC, Queer|Art, and Writers Against the War On Gaza. Panelists: Mohammed El-Kurd Chase Strangio Sabrina Imbler Moderated by Morgan Bassichis Closing words by Qween Jean RSVP here: bit.ly/pplvsnyt
