[001/?] A year passed by already since completing my MFA. And I’m still tired creatively.
Been grappling with burnout and feeling inadequate with my art practice. Writing seems to be the only tangible way to make sense of these things.
To whomever else is feeling similar, just know that burnout may be the sign to pivot, to process, and to just be 🙏🏽
January ‘26 — already feeling extremely grateful.
For the outside circle, this may seem like a normal occurrence. While gallery shows are expected as one who lives within the fine art world, THIS moment is evidence of my hard work and perseverance. Seeing familiar faces from just 7 months of living here was truly a bonus! All I could tell myself was, “Wow Morgan, you uprooted yourself (again) and already found your community.”
So far, my life feels like we just finished an extensive prologue to a 500 page memoir lol. Excited for what 2026 will bring creatively!
What a way to start the new year! I will be exhibiting “Black Banner” at the 2nd Annual Black History Festival of the Arts, “Rephrasis en Noir,” by @ohartfoundation from Jan 16 to March 16 2026.
Truly an honor to have the @zhoubartcenter be my first art gallery exhibition in Chicago as well!
Opening night is Jan 16 @ 7PM ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Lately, my surroundings have become my studio. This project, Ambedo, was made during a 10-week collaborative fellowship as a part of @fellowscollective

“… One must release the burdens of the past and the anticipation of the future, and simply be as they are in the moment. When this is done, each inhale feels like a new beginning, the renewed excitement for life surging through one’s veins like a shot of epinephrine. The drive and passion for life becomes purposeful, and the little things become everything. We owe it to ourselves, to each other, to stop and slow down, and truly enjoy the moment.”
My Chicago loving people, we got a group show in the books for this summer ⚡️⚡️⚡️
This show “The Neighborhood,” features local Chicagoan creatives. The art reception is open to the public on August 1st, 6-8PM. There will be music, food and good vibes 😎
Cheers to whatever comes next!
Writing has been a quiet but necessary part of my art process to provide myself clarity. Usually it remains in my sketchbook or illegible in the background of some projects, so I wanted to share an excerpt!
Sunset
The experiments I’ve made have subconsciously tapped into the visual relationship of the horizon. More specifically, the sunset.
I journaled my emotions directly on the paper immediately forgetting whatever I held onto. The controlled lack of control ended up creating a regulatory system for my body, mind and soul. I revolutionized the failure of accidents to be the necessary move to conscious decision making. In a world where patience is thin, chance becomes the window to individuality, and rest meets inspiration along the way.
Experimentation became a revolutionary act of regulation through bodily movements.
… I am far away enough for the lived experiences to be a memory. I knew it would come to an end, the end is a given, always in the distance-
Yet when I look back from the checkpoint I see the dawn in my forward. I wonder what will my sunrise hold.

A recap of 2024: interdisciplinary edition
If you ever have doubt that you can’t integrate all of your interests— prove yourself wrong! 2024 set an example of how my current body of work is moving towards social engagement and collaboration.
1– a very late night in the studio
2– Black Girl Day of Play!! The most extroverted version of me manifested as I asked friends and strangers to relive their childhood memories through hand games.
3-5– My time as the resident for the Graduate Arts Fellowship exceeded all expectations. All I can say is AOTA is the goat.
6– my MSUGC fam contributing to a piece I made earlier in the year.
7– I made a project from attending the Immersive Visualization Institute workshop in the summer, not really knowing what to do with it afterwards. Fall semester rolls around and two of my faculty members banded together to have their classes be the first group I host for my ARTSOUND workshop. TLDR; talk about your ideas/projects, an opportunity might open up!
8-9– Morgan modeling era revival ??? 🤔
10– first successful running code (yes.. I also code) for my project from the Cultural Heritage Informatics fellowship
11– digitizing my 30ft long baby 😚
