Sometimes I feel like I’m disappearing into nothing.

I’ve been feeling discouraged about making and sharing art lately. This recurring thing has been happening where I go online and see the project I have been planning for a year or so be actualized by another big time artist. I’ve been feeling like I don’t have my own thoughts or any semi “original” idea because someone is always beating me to it. I even make myself believe that what I was making wouldn’t be as cool or interesting and talk myself out of even sharing it.
A couple days ago this happened again. But this time I felt heartbroken about it because it was one of the most exciting ideas I have had in a very long time and felt a wave of passion over. I thought to myself. “Well what is even the point in doing it anymore. Especially if everyone is going to think I copied them when I didn’t.” After talking to a few artist friends I have had a change in heart. At the end of the day we all are inspired by someone or something. Almost everything has been done before in some sort of capacity. But I have to remember that anything I create will be unique to me and my experience as Sanjé. There isn’t another me and there isn’t another you.
All I’m saying is never let anyone, not even yourself tear you down from being the artist you want to be. Regardless if someone has done something similar. They will never be able to do it like you and vice versa.
(Now there isssss a difference between copying someone and being inspired by someone but you guys should know that already. Give credit when credit is due.)

LETS END THIS THING WITH A BANG!! ‼️ 💣💥
The six of us have had such a killer time making music and raising money for @youthrocknc together these last couple of months!✨ 🖤 (much love to Jay who is definitely in these pictures just really skilled in the art of camouflage)
Thank you so much to the incredible @moosekatt for this photoshoot and the wonderful experience we had working with her that day. Truly was a blast.
While we were taking these photos at dix park on a beautiful sunny evening a small child and her mother walked up to us and the child asked if they could take a picture with us.
It's safe to say from that moment on we were officially ROCKSTARS 😎🌟🪨
We are taking the energy from that moment and SPRINTING into these last two weeks of Rock Roulette 2026~!
If you want to support our goal of fundraising to help @youthrocknc empower and educate youth in our community PLEASE pull up to one of the following:
4/10: House show with @telepathiccatswithasthma (see last post for details)
4/18: Rock Roulette '26 showcase at @kingsraleigh
OR just pull up our mightycause page and donate there! (We are still holding strong in second place 😘🔥)

I live in a refractive community. I see you, you see me, I see you seeing me, I see me being seen by you. And it makes the art smooth like honey. Slow coming, and earthy, sweet, and local. I wanna see how sticky we can get.
Shout out to Sanjé @moosekatt for capturing these images. Can't wait to share them all. And check out her site for more of her gorgeous film photography at /about

As we prepare to kick off Mental Health Awareness month, we want to invite you all to a Virtual Exhibition & Artist Talk that TBP’s Arts & Activism Youth Apprentices will be hosting this evening (5pm - 6:30pm) with local Fine Arts Photographer, Sanjé James! @moosekatt
We were blown away with Sanjé’s work from “Text Me When You Get Home,” at The Durham Art Guild back in February and felt particularly inspired by her call towards bringing more awareness to BIPOC Mental Health offerings in community. The ways in which Sanjé has used her art practice to emphasize intentionally in how we engage our mental health resonated deeply with how our apprentices are curating their upcoming exhibition this May!
So JOIN US today (4/30) at 5 pm , as we dive into the creative mind of this spectacular artist, and see selected pieces from her exhibitions, “Text Me When You Get Home //2024” & “Familiar Interplay // 2021” if you missed them the first time!

Hey this is Sanjé James again💜
One of my favorite moments during this residency was building friendships and being apart of the art community! During the start of Text Me When You Get Home I did an open call on my instagram looking for BIPOC models that wanted to be photographed in their safe space. At first I was super nervous to meet and photograph people I never met before but it ended up being a beautiful process that I hope to explore again. If I’d have to give any advice to anyone reading this I’d say to try getting out of your comfort zone with your next project! You never know where it will take you + you’ll learn something new. ⭐️
Hey this is Sanjé James! I’m one of the Durham Art Guild’s artist in residence doing a take over ⭐️. First I would like to thank the Durham Art Guild and the Black on Black Project @theblackonblackproject for this beautiful opportunity. Being able to create in a studio for the first time for 6 months was so special and fun. Working on my project Text Me When You Get Home has been a journey and I can’t wait to share more about it. Keep an eye out over the weekend for more content from me. 💜
