black: ECHO is an audio-visual performance project conceptualised by moonchile
Structured as thematic responses titled “variations” the work gathers lived narratives, primarily of the Black experience and renders them resonant through sound collage, mixed media, and spoken word.
Each variation becomes archive; memory refracted, reverberated and held in echo

Song of Spring debuts at canvas 5, march 19th
tickets available via @___presenttense site / link in bio 🌱
• canvas 5 begins in breath and tone; an opening meditation followed by an improvisation between Ku-Ro {saxophone} starless {spoken word} and black:ECHO sculpting a sonic bed beneath, three currents weaving in real time. from there, the room becomes the page; using the découpé (cut-up) technique popularised by William Burroughs, guests are invited to construct a collaborative text; fragments spliced, rearranged, made strange, shifting from ink to atmosphere.
the evening culminates in a new audiovisual offering by black:ECHO titled ‘Song of Spring’ — an ode to renewal, to emergence, to the quiet insistence of the turning season.
we looking forward to gathering once more 👥

• hi.
so i made a visual thing for this written thing i made with @mollyemmaaa - it doesn’t quite have a sound thing,
so we’ll be doing a live score / performance thing at the event thing - if you’d like to see these things, send an rsvp to:
[email protected]
nice.
you are invited to the launch of predictive prose by @moonchile and @mollyemmaaa published by madly awake.
predictive prose is a collaborative text shaped by human impulse and predictive language, written collaboratively over the course of a year in a shared iPhone note. emerging through the small negotiations between memory, machine, and intimacy, the text explores language as both medium and mirror—where memory, repetition, and algorithmic predictions converge to produce an evolving record of thought reflecting the fears, wishes, desires of the human and (possibly) digital psyche. the zine will launch with a reading, performance and film screening.
16 December at @___presenttense
7pm
performance begins at 7:45pm
rsvp to [email protected]
As part of the opening weekend of “A Show of Hands,” please join us for a very special (free!) music gathering on Saturday afternoon.
We’re honoured to present Betty c Fan (4:30pm), who will be followed by black:ECHO (6pm).
@bettycfan is a sculpture, sound and performance artist. She attunes her work to the urban sonic landscape, creating sculptural instruments and improvisation performances that explore the interplay of sound, space, and cultural identity in urban environment.
black:ECHO is an ambient/electronic project by sound & visual artist @moonchile showing a morphing performance piece rooted in improvisation, resulting in a synthesis of sound collage, visual montage and live instrumentation - creating reflections of our collective experience, shown through the black lens.
We can’t wait to see you all there!
