I love seeing people’s OOTD videos, so here’s my attempt at making one. ✨ This is part of my work week at the Prop Shop. @paramountpropshop Working on props and scenic elements for the upcoming show, South Pacific, at the Paramount Theatre in Aurora, Illinois. @paramountaurora ✨ I’m realizing more and more that I do love fashion and #fashun! The cell phone props in Dear Evan Hansen play an important role in the storytelling. Each character uses a real phone on stage, along with a specially designed “choreo phone” used during certain musical numbers, where glowing screens illuminate the actors’ faces as part of the choreography. Creating a device bright enough for the stage, while still easy for actors to turn on and off in the moment, required some creative problem solving. Paramount Prop Shop Manager and Prop Designer Aimee Plant @paramountpropshop developed an ingenious solution by adapting selfie lights to function as stage-ready phones. Prop Artisan Thor Walton @thorinwalton then went to work on the electronics. Thor disassembled the lights, removed the original LED board and battery components, corrected the reversed battery polarity, and rewired the circuit with a new main board so the battery could be safely recharged without taking the device apart. Aimee designed a custom 3D-printed case to house the components, giving the devices the look and feel of real phones while delivering the bright stage lighting needed for the choreography. I’m so happy to be a part of a group art exhibition downtown Aurora. It’s already the final week of “Riverine”, a local women’s art show at the Aurora Public Art Gallery, 20 E. Downer Place, on the 3rd floor. ✨ Gallery Hours - 12-4pm Wednesday-Friday. 10am-4pm Saturday.
