It is with great sadness that we share the news of Montclair Crew alum parent Janet Pewâs passing on Thursday, 12th February. Janet is the mother of Jamie, Will, and Henry Pew, who all rowed on the Montclair Crew team.
Janet and her husband, Layng, helped and supported the team in every way. Whether it was carpooling to the river or volunteering at regattas, they both gave their time generously. Janet loved watching her boys race.
Janet was also one of the first members of the FOMR board. She helped with fundraising and worked to ensure the ongoing legacy of the team.
Janet was herself an accomplished rower at Yale University and continued in the sport as a masters rower.
I will forever remember the joy on Janetâs face as we watched the Montclair Mounties RC Menâs Eight race at Henley Royal Regatta in 2018. Jamie sat in the five seat, and the boat made its way through each round, eventually reaching the semifinals on Saturday. It was a magical week.
Our deepest condolences to Layng, Jamie, Will, and Henry, and to all of Janetâs family and friends.
Janet, you will be remembered as the kind, generous, funny, and supportive woman you were. You will be missed immeasurably đ
