Presenting our very first walkthrough of the Monsoon Colour Lab. This session is designed for professional and semi-professionals who are working in the field and who want to explore the possibilities of shooting on film. There will be a tour of the lab, a session that answers all your questions of workflow, understanding of Kodak stock, cameras, processing and scanning. We will also be shooting some small bits of demo film on 16mm and 35mm and see it processed. Participants will get scans of their footage as well. Facilitated by Krish Makhija and Karan Suri Talwar. Link in bio. Very few spots. @kodak_shootfilm

It’s been almost a month and a bit more since the lab started operations and we have processed close to 35000 feet of film. A motion picture lab is such a delicate organism. It needs love, care and a lot of attention to the most microscopic details in order for it to have desired outcomes. It’s a lesson in discipline and another in the rigour of everyday creation. It’s joy. Monsoon photo dump signing off.

The lab work is being done by some of the best people in the industry. People who belong to a time when everything was on film. They are craftspeople extraordinaire. And now, we are looking to train a new generation of people in this craft. This is your ‘in’.

Announcing: Monsoon Colour Lab in India We’re excited to share a recently emerged film lab in India, @monsooncolourlab which processes Super 8, 16mm and 35mm motion picture film with full logistical and post production support for filmmakers. The lab inherits the legacy of Filmlab India, which dates back to 1946. As Filmlab shut its doors, arts studio Harkat Studios founders Karan and Michaela Talwar, along with cinematographer Krish Makhija acquired all the equipment and re-hired staff to start a new chapter in India - with renewed energy. The collective intention is to not only make it easy for makers in South Asia to shoot on film, but also extend this with training programmes, making the lab an active space of community and knowledge. It’s a natural step for the work Harkat has been doing since years in the subcontinent and with projects already on floor, Monsoon Colour Lab negatives will see the silver screen very soon.
