Running a creative business is not always what it looks like on here! Here’s what a real week looks like for me - built around the school run, a brain that works differently and the hard-won knowledge that knitting on the sofa counts as essential business infrastructure 😂 There’s client work (the bit I love), a pottery class, dog walks and one or two co-working sessions with other female founders... because it turns out working alone every day can send you a bit bonkers. When we start working together, most founders arrive with a Pinterest board, a list of competitors and a brand vibe. Ok - I’m saying it - this is my favourite submark I’ve ever created! 😅 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ An elegant octopus tentacle wrapped around an uppercase ‘B’ - it sounds like it shouldn’t work - but it absolutely does. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When founder Kate approached me to work on the brand world for Black Octopus Jewellery, she knew exactly who she was designing for - she just needed someone to make it visible. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What I loved most about this project is the contrast… It’s dark and edgy but still feels refined and never chaotic. It sits in this really interesting space between the classic jewellery aesthetic and something more alternative and rebellious - hitting that note without tipping either way took a lot of care. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We built the full brand world - identity, submarks, packaging and an immersive, effortless e-commerce site. It’s one of the most distinctive brands I’ve ever worked on. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And yes, I’m slightly obsessed with that B. 🖤

Marilyn Monroe didn’t have a logo but I might argue that she had something way more powerful... 💋 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ She created feelings and recognition and frankly, (from a MM-obsessed superfan) her brand ‘identity’ was iconic! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s very easy to focus on the visual side of branding, but the brands that last are built on how they make people *feel* and how clearly they’re understood. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If people don’t recognise you, remember you or connect with you… and sorry, but no logo can fix that!

Finally, I’m sharing ‘Marylebone’ - it’s elegant but still a little bit organic, blending refined typography with a delicate botanical detail which gives you that premium, polished look without feeling too formal. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s a beautiful fit for florists, wellness brands, coaches or anyone drawn to a more grounded, understated style. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ All of my semi-custom kits work the same way: I customise the design with your brand details and colours, so it feels personal to you (just without the time and cost of bespoke.) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Comment “LONDON” and I’ll send you the link to explore this one 🌿 and please tell me which is your favourite?

It’s not your logo people remember - it’s the thoughtful bit they didn’t expect. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The little bag of Haribo tucked into an order from Cult Pens. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The spritz of fragrance on tissue paper from Jo Malone London. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A beautifully wrapped parcel from Sézane that feels like a gift, even when you bought it for yourself. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ None of these things are necessary and that’s EXACTLY why they work! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ These ‘unnecessary’ details and finishing touches are often the brand touchpoints most businesses overlook - but they’re the parts people remember because they make them FEEL something. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ These days, everything is about automation, fast checkouts and AI so the brands that are going to stand out are the ones that still feel… human. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The brands we remember aren’t the most efficient, they’re the most felt. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you’re building or refining your brand, don’t just ask “what does this look like?” Ask: “where could this feel more memorable?” 👈🏼👈🏼👈🏼👈🏼That’s where loyalty lives.

GROWTH DOESN’T HAVE TO BE LOUD TO BE REAL! (I realise that all caps is quite loud but I wanted to make a point!) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For me, growth has meant building a business that fits around my life, not the other way around. Saying ‘no’ to projects that would take too much from me, my working hours fitting around my daughter and being able to take Summer off client work. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This kind of ‘growth’ isn’t as loud as huge turnover months or big milestones, but it is perhaps a bit more meaningful 🤍✨ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’d love to hear what kind of unconventional growth you’ve had in your business! 📸 @heatherseed.creates
