Hosting a listening session for @timecapsulesounds new hypersonic pressing of Genioh Yamashirogumi’s Ecophony Rinne, this Sunday 1-3pm at the @mono___space listen gallery in Portland. I’ll position the group’s history amongst the scientific research and ethnographic field recording practice of their director Tsutomu Ōhashi (aka Shoji Yamashiro), listening to some examples to contextualize their monumental 1986 album, one of the shining jewels of the bubble-era Tokyo cultural sphere. Some various ephemera, including some back issues of their magazine Chikyū Quarterly, will be available for browsing and we’ll play some of their other works afterward. Ticket link in bio, or visit mono-space.org
