When the mothers leave the herd to search for food and water, older or younger female elephants — often the aunts and sisters — take on the role of caretakers. They form a gentle circle around the little ones, watching them play, and if danger comes close, they build a living wall of bodies to keep the calves safe.
In this natural kindergarten, play is learning.

The deer of Nara city in Japan tell a story of coexistence and legends. These charming creatures, who freely roam the Nara Park, have long been an inseparable part of this ancient city’s culture and attractions. According to legend, a Shinto god named Takemikazuchi once rode a white deer to protect the people of Nara. Since then, the deer in Nara have been considered sacred.
Today, about 1,200 semi-wild deer live in Nara Park and comfortably interact with visitors. The deer are known for the "Shika Senbei"—special crackers that visitors can buy to feed them. Interestingly, when you hold these crackers, the deer politely bow (a little nod of respect!) to request their treat.
This friendly and charming bond between humans and deer in Nara brings a strange sense of peace and beauty to visitors, a reminder of harmony and mutual respect in Japanese culture. If you ever get a chance to visit Nara, be sure to say hello to these curious and gentle creatures!
