How do I sum up the experience that is the NCECA conference?! It is two weeks worth of lectures, demonstrations, gallery showings, fundraising, expo trade showings, and program information all put into 3.35 days! So busy busy busy. And that doesn’t cover the exploring of a new city! (This year was Detroit Michigan which was super cool until it wasn’t and then you make a U-turn and get back towards downtown.)
ALS, much of the time is spent getting to know other people who love playing in the mud as much as you! And time meeting people you have seen making pots on the internet but never in person (modern life is weird) one of my favorite parts is getting to hold all the work you see these cool people posting online. So much of the great work I see is only a photograph of the work and so it’s so nice to get to feel and really appreciate the work that people are making and putting out there. What humans can do with clay will never cease to amaze me.
I brought boxes of cups, bowls, and vases with me this year and had a great time leaving them around like Easter eggs and also giving them to people I have enjoyed their work and or company. I was touched with how many people responded with giving me a piece of theirs in return. The video shows all of the pots I brought back home this year. Mostly pots that were going back to me in reciprocity and a few I purchased because you know I’ve really been needing another coffee mug!
I saw a bunch of cool art and a robocop statue I don’t know who to credit a lot of the work to but I will tag the people I know here. If you see someone I missed feel free to tag them. Or don’t that’s fine too. Live your life. Oh! I enjoyed this cool coffee shop called “the mug” which seemed real fitting. Hmm other things… my feet were super sore by the end of the week. Huge convention center and the last night is always a dance. I almost bailed due to sore feet and general exhaustion but I rallied and had a grand time!
The trip was quite expensive plus I gave away a bunch of inventory. So I am getting right back to work!
Etsy update soon! ❤️❤️❤️
My mug haul from this years @nceca !
I grouped them by category of: I could leave them sp I bought them; mug sale; shotglass exchange; and trade/given.
I learned so much and had such an awesome time. I can't wait to start using the tools and knowledge I've gained from this past week. I have more fun things i got that I'll be posting about throughout the next week, including trades (which needs its own post since there's are just so, so many)!
Pieces not tagged: @caitienorth (an absolutely incredible underglazed cup); Lil Dude Studios (an amazing rat bowl); an adorable mushroom jar (bottom says ceramica but I could figure a social); an tiny and adorable vase (the boytom had the logo of tmi in a circle but im not sure what a social is for it) and an wonderful wood fired cup that I traded a tiny frog for that I didnt get the name of the artist 😭!

⬇️🌈
No mires abajo.
